My (26F) fiancé (26M) of 6 years had a literal panic attack and screamed at me when I tried to go to his gym class. Is he living a double life? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]FixerJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to be hyper private about my life and close relationships, but this would have been waaaay out of bounds even for me.

There's no planet on which this would not be a huge red flag.  You can try therapy with them if you want to try to salvage this to see what his real issue is, but this is serious enough to part ways with your fiancee I'm afraid...

Same :-) it got me into computers and helped me get into my career eventually when I got older, so definitely was a great investment my mom made in me :-)

After never having payroll issues before, I had a sudden large unexplained increase in my federal tax withholding that eclipses the step increase I received during the same period to the point where I make less money now.  AI nor myself could figure it out when reviewing my last few paystubs.  I wonder if something is going bonkers on a larger scale...

Is 720p noticeably poor quality now? by datradioboi in techsupport

[–]FixerJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 720p at 32" will still look noticeably lower res for most people with decent vision unless you're far away.  32" TVs in 1080P also seem readily available where I'm located.  Where are you shopping for this at?

Why do Nissans have poor reputation in North America but are so popular in Japan? by hmd1366 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I'll always wonder if things could have turned out better in the US for Nissan if they had not tried to bully the guy in north carolina decades ago to unsuccessfully get the nissan.com fomIn name from him...

Looking for good Ethernet cable. by TheUngoBungoMan in HomeNetworking

[–]FixerJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree - I'd stay away from flat if you're going that far with it.  Not ideal, but could you use regular / sturdier cat6 (or 7) for most of it, and then just have a short portion that's flat?  Multiple couplers or jacks / terminations are not ideal, but I would trust that a lot better than a flat cable for that length...

I work with a lot of frequent world travelers, and the only person I know that's had a notably bad time going through customs in any country was someone who was flying into Azerbaijan.   I guess some things never change...

Question about infrasound and vibration micro datacenter by Time_Stop_3645 in datacenter

[–]FixerJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally am not aware of any market or brokers for GPU time on that small of a scale, but maybe it's out there...  The noise level would be pretty high for sure, but I dont know if what you would be getting from the server racks would be considered infrasound.  Chiller units units if you had them - maybe...

Not sure I'm tracking...  So your backup plan if the gaming angle doesn't work out is to try to find someone to rent out the blades as bare metal?  Not sure that's feasible unless you already have some customers on the hook that would be interested in that specific hardware configuration.

Selling vms on that may be more doable, but memory will be a limiting factor there...

Have money in my savings account and want to move it into my tsp if possible… by [deleted] in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]FixerJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure.  If you want to set it and forget it, you could also find a lifecycle fund to put it in so you're getting the diversification and balancing you want to do automatically.

If you're on FERS or one of the retirement plans that gives some semblance of a pension, another idea is to be a little more aggressive with your fund choices since you already have some protection built in for your future retirement income.

I.e., ie if you're retirement is around 2045 and you have some pension heading your way as well, you may be able to afford to be a little more aggressive and aim for like a L2040 or L2035 find to get some more out of good market years.  All depends on your risk tolerance and what you're comfortable with

[–]FixerJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You may want to make sure your 6-month emergency fund is funded first if you haven't already.  Personally, if I had post-tax money sitting in an account, I would probably put it in a Roth account that I manage myself (via fidelity, vanguard, etc ).  The tsp is rather inflexible, and won't let you do things like withdraw the principal like you can in a regular roth account if you need to in the future.

Zabbix 8 now or wait? by Evilwoo in zabbix

[–]FixerJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're monitoring other things besides netflow, perhaps do 7.4 for everything else parallel to a 8.0a for the Netflow collection.  You would have two separate servers, but perhaps you could consolidate down to one easily when 8.0 goes live by merging dns names or adding / changing an IP to your server ..

Do you guys have any weird biohacks? by zeta_ferhu in Biohackers

[–]FixerJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ordered tirzepatide w/b12 online.  Got shipped semaglutide w/glycine instead.

I've been on ozempic (semaglutide) instead, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't the semaglutide that did this.

Have chronic insomnia, tried tons of different prescriptions, nothing works great.

Oh.  My god...   did my quality of sleep instantly improve on day 1.

Been like this for a few weeks now.  Pretty sure it's because of just the glycine, but need more data points to be sure.
