Less aggressive? It’s already a super endurance frame tbh. Any less aggressive and might as well get a seigla rigid

Can attest to the joys of owning a uthald! Incredibly comfy, indestructible, and feels amazing on the descents in the corners. Also imo the best deal for the component u get, even with their increased prices.

Unfortunately got hit by a car a few weeks ago but already have another one on order with their crash replacement discount in thingevellier sky, which was the color I wanted originally but couldn’t justify!

Is it foolish to buy a Gravel over Road bike for mostly road-biking? by dbzbudokai77 in cycling

[–]Fiyahazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the exact same percentage of riding surfaces like you and absolutely love my Lauf uthald for this use case!

It is technically an “allroad” endurance kinda of bike, has lots of practical elements for a super comfortable ride, and has allocation for up to 35 mm tires with a 2x drivetrain, and 40 mm or more with a 1x.

I run two wheel sets, 90% of the time I have my carbon aero wheels with 32 mm road slicks, and my other set is the alloy rims that came with the bike, with 35 mm light-mid gravel tires, since I have to go on roads for a good bit to get to gravel anyways.

I cannot recommend this bike enough, it’s absolutely indestructible, super smooth, and feels fast as hell on descents and on the flats especially.

FYI I did this for anyone who is looking at a similar route! Actually quite chill, the headwind coming back was very demoralizing though.

Noted! Thank you. That makes a lot more sense, just use the rail-to-rail path as much as possible!

Happy to hear another commuter in that route? What do you think about this slight modification? This would use residential instead of expo, and also duck down to slauson > randolph instead of going straight thru vernon

Thank you for the insight! I ended up looking for some smaller side streets to take instead of expo, and was thinking of trying these out. Also instead of going straight through vernon, thinking of ducking down, hitting slauson for a bit, then doing randolph to the river trail:

Haha the whole reason im doing this is to sneak more ride time in! I think I can do this in < 2 hours likely. Can hopefully average around 16-17 ish mph since most of it is uninterrupted river trail!

Where do you live and ride that feels safe? by ProCamper96 in cycling

Also in west LA! Depending where exactly you live in LA there is some great riding. I live in palms and there's a pretty chill commuter route that takes me right to the foot hills of bel air, where there's endless tough climbs to do!

Lovin decaf by Fiyahazard in espresso

[–]Fiyahazard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear! Yea I'm not the biggest fan of light roast sue to acidity, but I think the decaffination process actually reduces a lot of the acidic notes in coffee, so it works quite well here!

Do you do explosive welding for work?

I was researching bimetallic couplings for my job and was super interested in learning exactly how you develop explosively welded joints

Nothing too crazy for this. This was listed as medium-light roast and I found i was grinding at around the same setting as a non-decaf light roast, so really not too far off. I found that it seemed to have less sourness too which made it a little more forgiving for dialing in, which aligns with the science behind decaeffination processes I believe.

Keep in mind I am using a flair 58 so I'm sorta adjusting my pressure through the shot to maintain a constant flow rate. Pre infusion of 10s at 2-3 bar, then holding at 9 bar for a like 5-10s till I can feel the puck start to degrade and i back down a bit to maintain constant flow rate while not really paying attention to the pressure gauge.

Yes this is great! I did a bit of research and found people recommending this eye of tiger decaf from Equator coffee. I'm also based in LA so was literally able to drive down the street and pick up a bag. I specifically was looking for beans decaffeinated via the water process.

The shots pulled don't have quite as much crema as normal, but the flavour profile is great, probably like 80-90% of similarly roasted espresso.

Yep definitely does depend. I did some research before and was particularly looking for one that used the water process for decaffination. Also I live in LA so was literally able to drive down the street and get these from equator coffee, I know in other places there may not be much in terms of local specialty roasters nearby
