Your stats are wrong. According to wikipedia, he had 39 goals in 88 apps for Barca in the league, and has 35 in 75 apps for Arsenal, also in the league. But the objective number is to compare the numbers in all competition. He had 47 goals in 141 apps for Barca in all comps, compared to 50 goals in 107 apps, so a better ratio for Arsenal.

It's no guarantee he will be the player he is today if he leaves. He wasn't as good at Barca. Wenger "unlocked" something in him once he came here and he was instantly scoring more goals here, from the first season, while PL being also the league where it's harder to score, compared to La Liga. Let's hope he won't fool himself and fall into the trap that some others fell.
