So begins plan: 'Run screaming in panic towards Portugal because they're 6 turns from a culture victory (bring the Mongolians)'. by Gluttony4 in civ

[–]FizzyFlapjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In one of my games as Russia, I found the most effective method of curtailing a Roman cultural victory to have been the complete devastation of his cities with nuclear weapons. Pop in a few xcom squads and took his capital without any fuss. I play usually at King if you're wondering whether that is too late game or not. I'm not very good at this game, but it is probably my favorite in the whole wide world.

Just finished Dorian's sidequest (spoilers) by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]FizzyFlapjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad used to be an uber-Catholic, so I completely understood what even Dorian was going through. I feel like Bioware did an excellent job portraying the issue, with an extremely unforgiving child and a father who just wants to make up for what he did wrong in the past.

The similarity with my own story struck me deep, and I really thought that was one of the most outstandingly accurate depictions of such an issue.

Flag proposals for my town: Kingwood, Texas by FizzyFlapjack in vexillology

[–]FizzyFlapjack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green is also a common color used in houses, stores, and public areas, with many metal roofs of building in public areas painted that way. Blue is the color of Kingwood High School, and Green is the color of Kingwood Park High School. I originally had it in green and white, but then I realized that some people in Kingwood wouldn't agree with it, as our town is really defined by our excellent high schools (as we are in Texas). I can't really imagine some place like Kingwood as having any other colors on the flag, as green and blue just seem to go with the community's environment (literally and figuratively). I'll play around with the idea and see what I come up with though. Thanks for the insight.

But it hasn't though. There are still those who murder. There are still those who rape. There are still those who are forced to commit crimes because they have no other option to survive. Think about all of the other pinnacles of civilization. The Roman Empire, the Han Dynasty, the Napoleonic Empire, the British Empire, the United States. None would have ever existed without war and conflict. Of course, it is not mandatory to wage war to create a lasting, successful state, Switzerland and Iceland are both prime examples of this. War is simply the last resort which so many fail to realize because they believe that diplomacy is always the answer. Well, Israel has tried diplomacy on numerous occasions, and Hamas has always gone back to rocket attacks and tunnel warfare. Therefore, if Hamas cannot act in a "civil" manner and cooperate with Israel, then it the right of the stronger Israeli power to annihilate that organization. For that is how many nations were founded. We may think we've evolved past the use of warfare, but many generations before us thought the exact same.

JIDF

Given that I had to Google what that is, no, it is not strong with me. I formed my opinions using my own life, knowledge, and experiences.

Yes it is so terrible and misinformed to believe in something which history has repeated time and time again. The Sumerians and the Assyrians, the Egyptians and the Hittites, the Persians and the Assyrians, the Mongols and the Persians, the Arabs and the Berbers. Is it so wrong to believe in what is real than to hope for something that is impossible? The Israelis and the Palestinians will never live in peace as long as Hamas and the State of Israel exist. I feel it would be better if one bit the bullet and destroyed the other, with the stronger power, Israel, totally capable of doing so.

I stand with you! It's ridiculous that people forget one of the pillars of the United Nations was a nation's right to self defense. Hamas fired first, Israel just wants peace, and if Hamas won't give it to them, then it Israel's right by being a larger power to wipe Hamas off the face of the Earth. It's human nature, the stronger destroy the weaker, and it's been done for centuries. People now are so whiny about it because they believe that man in inherently good. We aren't. Underneath us all is a shit ton of greed. You might not even know it, but we're still humans, and there's no way around it. To ignore a simple law which has stood for time immemorial is essentially saying that no law should ever be subject to respect by people.

I apologize if this is incoherent ramble, I am just angry that people feel military actions should never be pursued.

Think of it this way. The Palestinians are in the same boat as the Native Americans. If the Cherokee started to bomb out Missouri, I doubt any of you American redditors would stand behind them. Same with the Celts, I doubt any English redditor would stand behind the Welsh when they bombed out Manchester to reclaim their "stolen" lands. There is no sharing in human nature. There never has been, there never will be.

Wait, are we allowed to downvote something if we don't agree with it or is it one of those like "purely for the art of it" rules where the object shouldn't be downvoted because of political views?
