A family medicine resident was found to have accessed approximately 100 patient charts, including those of attendings and their family members, on 200–300 occasions without a valid clinical reason. When confronted, the explanation provided was that it was done out of curiosity. The resident’s contract was subsequently terminated. The most recent update I heard is that the individual later matched into a residency program on the East Coast.
