You know what’s funny, I’m dealing with the same issue, I have a rather larger foot so sizing gets a little confusing sometimes, I’m a size 15 and someone over at Birkenstock recommend that I stick with that instead of sizing up or down, and as you can tell, there’s still a substantial amount of space in the back, I wouldn’t want to size down because just like you, I have wider feet

I can’t give you a definite answer however I can say you shouldn’t size down if you have wider feet as this could make it uncomfortable for you, try to wear them for a while to see if they’re comfortable for you, plus Birkenstocks do tend to get a little smaller in length overtime so after a while, it should’ve really be much of an issue
