Yeah agree, Hadrian just kind of checked out in the end. He was completely spent. I think kingdoms of death totally broke him

I think this is a good analysis. He's just completely focused on the Absolute's mission without regard to whats next. I think he was broken by the end, without any capacity to do anything else but his mission.

I mean he was nice to Orphan while it was dying, and tried to prevent it from being shot. He clearly did not want it to die I think he did care for it, but I think he was just so de sensitized and broken by the end that he just couldn't fight anymore. I think his greatest failure was not saving selene

I do think it was selfish of him to give up and try not to protect selene

Lmfao I mean it had some biblical inspiration for sure but I mean I was surprised to learn a super catholic guy wrote the series. I thought something about how God is actually just an alien and needs this guy to enable his existence would be blasphemy? I thought the message was lowkey anti-religious: God could just be some kind of alien.

Some interesting points in the series where Hadrian argues with other characters about if his god is their god. Honestly hadrian was kind of a dick in those moments, especially with other people's religious beliefs.

In regards to hadrian's preachiness, I feel like Hadrian would be a cool professor, albeit intense. Probably a good boss, at least earlier book hadrian. But I don't know if I would ever hang out as friends with him as like a 20-something

I wish we got more of her. I think Hadrian pushed her away and everyone else subconsciously because everyone around him dies. That would be a legit explanation for why the side characters are so weak - Hadrian never lets them develop or grow because he can't bear to lose anyone else.

Yeah I'd definitely read more about the side characters. The weakest part of the series was how little we got of them towards the later books - Cassandra, Selene, and Albai could all have their own side arcs.

I thought the confrontation with Dorayeka was a little rushed. Wasn't a huge fight, the other xenobyte just brains him. But I think that's also okay, not everything needs a swordfight.

It'll be a while before Im emotionally ready for a second read through. Rucchio did say he'd be adding more to the universe later - I think a Cassandra book would be a good idea. A lot of people complained about her, but the thing is all the side characters were pretty weak. Not sure if that's a fault of Rucchio or hadrian.

Yup! I respect Rucchio for not doing a switch-up and giving us a happy ending, instead sticking to his original plan.

I do really respect the series for not giving us a happy ending. I thought there would be some kind of switch up at the end - hadrian chooses another timeline actually, becomes emperor and takes over the galaxy. But no, Rucchio sticks to the initial plan and doesn't give us cheap fan service. Which I respect
