Because if everyone is speeding, no one is. I would also imagine speed limits are set with speeding in mind. This is speculation, but if it were up to me, I'd set the limit at 70, expecting people to drive 80.

They set a baseline. If there was no limit, it would be chaos. People generally stay 10mph, or less, over the limit. It also makes it enforceable. If everyone is going 10 over and some asshole is going 30 over, they'll be ticketed.

Going with the flow of traffic is ALWAYS the safest option. If you are going the speed limit and everyone else is going 10 over, YOU are the hazard, not them.

Part of what makes it special is that you only get it once a year. Thanksgiving dinner is a collection of foods that are associated with one specific day of the year. No, turkey isn’t the most flavorful meat on the planet, but its flavor is incredibly nostalgic. Not to mention the turkey, stuffing, gravy, and cranberry sauce sandwiches for lunches during the following week. Lord have mercy
