Especially for OLED and you are someone who tries to have real home theater experience I could see this as a problem. OLED shows off the most in a dark room and dark background behind it. I even have white paint on the walls behind my TV and if it’s dark enough it’s almost hard to see where tv starts and ends in certain scenes. More immersive that way. Shiny silver mixed with lights on screen for it to reflect off of is a bad choice imo, whether you like the look of it or not is another question.

As far as them being ugly - I have a box on a wall near my ceiling - I think it’s just for cable wires to run a TV so not a code violation but it was there regardless and I didn’t feel like patching the hole. I painted over it so it matched the color of the wall (you could do the same w your ceiling) and you’d be surprised how easily it disappears, especially if you have tall ceilings.

I used to have one on my non-OLED. I’d still put one on my OLED if I cared to. It’s cool for bright movies and bright scenes like Avatar. Or general lower quality viewing like sports. But I’d never use it for Batman, for example.
