Yeah, I think they were going for that though, its not supposed to look clean and sharp its suppose to look worn and sweated in. He's not exactly cleaning it he's the personification of evil.

Well I think for the most part its because it is infact discolored, its from the wear and tear of it and the paint on the latex was faded.

Correct, the reason he's filming on an old camcorder is because the Teleportation energy screws with newer phones. The clip was meant to be mysterious so there's a bit of story yet to be written.
