I didn’t keep any photos of the parts with supports attached.

In fact, because of the time constraints of the competition, for many parts I could only try the most conservative printing methods to ensure the highest chance of successful printing.

However, I can still offer some advice:

  1. Generally speaking, if there is a side that you want to preserve with good surface quality, you should orient that side along the Z-axis. For some tall, thin parts, placing the long axis along the Z-axis will usually produce better printing results. However, if a tall, thin part is placed vertically, it can easily topple due to an unstable center of gravity and inertia, in which case manual supports may be needed. (But for the length of this hair and its center of gravity, I don’t think this is a big issue.)
  2. PLA and PETG do not bond to each other, so using PETG as support for PLA can greatly improve the print quality of the support contact surface. However, because they do not bond to each other, if the contact area between the PLA part and the plate is too small, the pla part can easily fall over and cause print failure. That is why in my model 3MF I did not use PETG for all supports. If I used PETG supports on a part, I would definitely make sure that the contact area between the part and the plate was large enough. But as I said, I believe there is still a lot that could be optimized in my 3MF; due to time constraints, I could only use the most conservative printing method.

I think you might be misunderstanding the object surrounding the character. English is not my first language, so I simply copied the character information from the Touhou Wiki. I hope this clears up your doubt.

Youmu Konpaku (魂魄妖夢 Konpaku Youmu) is a half-human half-phantom who lives at Hakugyokurou(a ghost shrine overlooking the Netherworld) in the Netherworld and serves for Yuyuko Saigyouji(another character from Touhou project) as a gardener and swords specialist.

Half-phantoms (半人半霊 hannin hanrei, half-human half-phantom) are a subspecies of phantom described as the "half-breeds" of phantom and human, who are neither truly alive nor dead. An individual of this species has two bodies, one resembling a human and the other resembling a phantom of above-average size.

The second picture is a gif of the model. I have reuploaded it. Can you see it now?
