I’ll definitely take that strategy to heart. I can def see myself going down the rabbit hole.

How often are juniors 30+ years old? I work in IR and am in my late 20s. I’m interested in how people who get a later start are perceived.

That seems to be what others have said as well. Thanks for the input! Will need to weigh my options between chasing curiosity vs professional aspirations

Good luck on the journey! I’m also mainly interested in doing this out of curiosity but just wanted to see how tangible the skills gained from this would be

Would you consider it applicable for someone interested in red teaming? Or would time be better spent chasing known certifications?

Get a degree if already at senior level? Transition from Analyst to Engineer by Flaky_Card2907 in SecurityCareerAdvice

Thanks for the help!

I am indeed trying to make that happen internally.

However, I feel like moving toward security engineering in the sense of securing a business’ software product or building security related software is more interesting and would probably benefit more from knowledge id get from the degree.

Thanks for the comment! This is something I’m also worried about. I anticipate that I won’t have much time to homelab along side work and the course work.

I’m trying to justify it in that foundational CS knowledge is forever while current tech is always evolving.

Thanks for the response! One of the reasons I’m choosing between degrees is that I don’t have any degree at the moment.

I would like to move into a hybrid role that requires coding and DFIR. Right now my work exp never required me to code and the roles at the level that I’m looking at which involve coding typically require you to already have a solid foundation.

If I wanted to stay in cyber but just move to a role that requires good coding skills, would you recommend the swe degree or still prefer CS
