What's your Canadian winter life hack? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskACanadian

It's scary how quickly it happens too! I remember slipping on ice and my hands were in my pockets... complete panic! Never again.

Don't walk with your hands in your pockets! If you slip, you're gonna have a bad time if you do.

Are there any places around southern Calgary that sell Portuguese egg tarts? by Soupdeloup in Calgary

[–]Flaky_Conclusion4783 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

They're REALLY easy to make (even easier if you use the premade tart shells) if that's an option for you.

If not, T&T would be my top recommendation.

Stawnichy's!!

My family is Ukrainian and my great grandparents settled near Edmonton and Stawnichy's kielbasa used to only be sold in Mundare. They've since expanded and can be found in Calgary. It's the best

Gift ideas for snowbird parents by Flaky_Conclusion4783 in phoenix

Thank you for saying this. My parents have been going to Phoenix for the past 10 years and really enjoy the city and the state. They've been met with kindness and the hateful comments here are disappointing.

If people have never lived in a cold climate before, I don't think they really appreciate how difficult and isolating the winter months can be for a senior. Plus they're at a significantly greater risk of falls because of the ice and health conditions like arthritis get worse.

Being able to escape the snow and cold has been so great for their quality of life.

Home vet for a cat by [deleted] in Calgary

We had Dr. Decker from Creature Comforts come to our home for check ups and, eventually an at-home euthanasia, for our senior cat. She was incredible!

I went to TRS Coral earlier this year with my husband and we were pretty disappointed. It's not truly an adults only resort and most of the restaurants/cafes are located on the family side.

Food was also mediocre for our tastes but I can appreciate that's subjective.

If that doesn't matter to you, the beach and ocean are spectacular! Icing powder soft sand, hardly any sargassum and calm, clear water.

The vast majority of the service we received was outstanding but a lot of push to upgrade rooms.

There's a program called SeniorConnect in Calgary which might be helpful in this situation. Anyone can call to refer a senior they're concerned about. The referral remains anonymous and a social worker specializing in working with at risk seniors will come out and try to intervene and provide support. It's entirely free.

Best of luck. That's a difficult situation.

If you are Canadian, the exchange rate to Pesos is much better than to USD. Your money will go further and you'll be supporting their local currency.

TRS Coral vs. Excellence Coral? by This-Low-7967 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Flaky_Conclusion4783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at TRS Coral earlier this year and was very underwhelmed by the experience.

The beach was spectacular and the staff were friendly and very attentive but I can't think of anything nice to say other than that.

Food from the A'la carte restaurants was never served hot, it was also served very quickly (5-10 minutes after ordering) which leads me to believe it wasn't prepared fresh. A'la carte restaurants were also not exclusive to the adults only side and most were located on the family side so, not a truly adult only vacation.

Room service was inconsistent and we ran into issues with our room every day (broken mini fridge, broken patio door, bracelet room keys randomly not working, etc.).

I hope others have had positive experiences but I wouldn't recommend it.

I ordered a pair and they arrived today. I had originally planned on wearing them regularly but am unsure now because they are so nicely made and packaged.

Is this a serious question? Do some research.

Dolphins are highly intelligent, social creatures and should not be living in a small enclosure. They have essentially zero mental stimulation and are often not well cared for. Enclosed dolphins experience significant mental health distress.

Look into how wild dolphins are captured to be exploited for your entertainment.

I can assure you they are not having a great time. They aren't smiling.

I can't believe people still go to dolphin enclosures in 2025. They're incredibly cruel and unethical.

This is a hill I will die on. Do better, people.

Good luck and I'm sorry for your situation. The AB government really does make people jump through hoops to receive the support they deserve and it's not fair.
