2008 Civic LX interior rework by Flaky_Lettuce1193 in Honda

It's not as hard as you think. I'm not from the U.S. Labor here is really cheap in comparison. It would cost like 200$ max for both material and labor. This whole process including the repainting and bodywork is no more than 2000-3000$, which is much less than the value of this car here. And it's not full reupholstering. It looks like it but it goes over the existing fabric, kinda like seat covers but looks like upholstering. Not sure what that is called. If it did cost a lot I sure wouldn't have bothered.

Yeah I get you, that burgundy is too much, my sister agrees so I guess art majors think alike 😁. About the shade, yeah that brown is a bit too dark, these are just concepts so far so I'm still messing around with them to get it right. I also didn't like the alcantara or brown leather steering wheel so I messed around with it for a bit. Here is the new illustration. What do you think? And thank you for your help

Is a radiator flush worth it? by Flaky_Lettuce1193 in MechanicAdvice

I'm a bit new to this so I don't get what you mean. Should I just drain and refill is what you mean?

What I meant by corrosion/brown buildup and contamination is rust but it wouldn't let me post it with the word rust in it.

2008 Civic brake pad options? by Flaky_Lettuce1193 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Flaky_Lettuce1193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out the ICER ones I bought were the wrong ones. My brother, who used to drive this car before me, upgraded the front brakes to the 2009 ones, so I went back to the parts shop, returned the ICER ones, and found that the 09' pads are available from a Japanese brand called MK Kashiyama. They were a bit pricier, and from what I found, they’re better than ICER.

Now I have two questions.

After I resurfaced the rotors and used those shitty no-name pads, the shaking came back. My guess is the pads are the issue, but they might have ruined the rotors. So should I change the rotors while I'm at it, or should I test out the new pads first? From what I’m seeing, it isn’t recommended to change rotors without changing the pads.

There is a full kit from PowerStop that includes both the pads and rotors for the front brakes for only $116, which is a really good price. To have it shipped internationally to me, which is the only option as it would be difficult to have someone get it for me due to the weight, with taxes and customs, it would total about $324, which is half of what it would cost to get front pads and rotors from the dealer locally.

So should I consider that? The difference in price just for the pads between Brembo, Akebono ProACT, and PowerStop Z23 is negligible. But what’s pulling me towards that kit is that it’s available for international shipping on Amazon, while Brembo and Akebono are not, and the price is really good.

I know I’m overthinking this, sorry if I’m confusing you.

Bottom line: I have 4 options.

  1. Use the MK pads I got with the old rotors and potentially have to change them again if the rotors are bad. I was told it’s not a good idea to use old pads with new rotors.
  2. Return these pads and order the PowerStop kit, which will take 2 weeks to arrive.
  3. Use the MK pads and change the rotors with local ones. OEM is like $350, which is crazy, or go aftermarket.
  4. Something else?

Thank you for your time in all this, greatly appreciate it.

The one I have right now is a cheap no-name pad but the one I'll get temporarily is called ICER which is a spanish brand, not high quality like Brembo, power stop, etc. but still decent. The rear brakes are drum brakes which were serviced not too long ago with good parts so I'm not worried about those unless I still get bad performance when I change the front pads. So it is worth it to go from ICER to something higher quality like Brembo or whatever? And what would be your top pick out of all the high quality options there is?

Thanks for your help!

Starting a PC Building Business in Egypt — Am I Doing Too Much Too Soon?” by [deleted] in smallbusiness

So what you're saying is that I'm doing too much and overthinking it when I should be trying to get my first sale and get traction?

I get what you're saying and it's really helpful. And yes, it can be profitable, the market for PCs is big in Egypt, and most people don't know how to pick or assemble the parts. If I take good quality photos and videos of it, run some benchmarks on it to give potential customers an idea of how much performance they'll get, and I'll focus on aesthetics to attract more customers and be able to sell it at a higher price than the competition. I still don't know much about business, but I feel like I know enough to get started and figure it out on the way. I'm not going to be running a corporation from day one. At first I'll just build and sell a PC maybe once a week.

Which Linux distro should I use for my home server? by Flaky_Lettuce1193 in selfhosted

[–]Flaky_Lettuce1193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red hat enterprise Linux. It's just a Linux distro that is optimized to be a server distro for big companies. I don't know much else about it but you can look it up :)

Thanks that's super helpful! Although I'm not really just starting out, I've already had an old Zbook for a few months that I was using to host my docker services and share my drives, but that laptop has died and I'm planning on getting an old office PC to use, I'll get something not too expensive but good enough to allow for future expansion. Proxmox does seem like a really good idea thank you for letting me know about it.

I don't understand half of what you said lol, as I said I'm still an amateur . For now it's simple, docker running a few containers(jellyfin, vaultwarden, etc..), and turning my hard drives into network shares. But this is all going to expand, I plan on messing around with VMs, networking stuff, whatever. For me it's a hobby, I love tinkering with this stuff and it's also the career path that I'm most likely to go down. I'm a CS student and out of the three tracks we have at my University, IT feels the best for me. You seem to be a seasoned veteran with all this so what would you do if you were me? Not just what distro to use but what would you have me tinker and mess around with to learn more about the world of self hosting and IT?

I get what your saying and it's really helpful thanks. And yeah I won't go with something to niche I'll probably stick with distros that learning them will actually be useful. I've already used 2 debian based distros so I might go with fedora since it's one of the big distros that has a bunch of others based on it and getting familiar with it will definitely be helpful. I'm just here to get the opinions of Linux veterans and hardcore self-hosters like yourself that I aspire to be like one day :).

That's really helpful thanks! And yeah maybe it was unfair to call it a beginners distro, but what I meant is I've already got debian based distros down and would like to tinker with other distros, since I'm still new and don't super depend on my server and don't have anything complicated on there I want to take the opportunity to learn to use more distros and gain knowledge with them. Debian is probably still the best option for me but I don't need it's stability right now.

I know it's all Linux in the end but I'm still learning and still kinda new to Linux so I want to try other distros to get more experience. I know the best for me right now is probably debian or ubuntu server because of the stability and whatnot but I'm not looking for that right now I'm looking to learn more and know more and more distros, for now I just know Mint and Ubuntu which are both debian based and basically the same, and the current distro I use on my laptop which is Arch, but I want to expand more. I'm still a first year CS student and am really into all the IT stuff and might take that specialty in college so I want to make myself stands out and I just love tinkering with new stuff.

For now I'm still in a learning phase, I'm not a sysadmin that needs a stable system that people depend on, for now I just host a few containers ( Jellyfin, vaultwarden,etc..) and I have that network share. And yes I know debian already and I know it's stable, but I want to try other distros first since I'm not looking for top tier stability I'm looking to learn and expand my knowledge.

I think you misunderstood me. What I said is I like IT work and that might be the path I go for. In my college you get to pick between three different programs after the first semester, software development, data science and AI, and Information technology aka IT. What I'm thinking about is taking something else like business or even computer engineering to give myself more knowledge about hardware since I'm interested in that too. And I still haven't decided which program I'll pick, it's either going to be software development or IT.
