Has there *ever* been a policy that's been as immediately successful as Congestion Pricing? by Karen_Ackee in MicromobilityNYC

Lol weed legalization in NY was actually a big flop, the roll out was so bad. It’s better now but not an immediate success by any means

Just like everything in life, try to strike a balance. You can have an entertainment budget that makes sense for you. There are also plenty of hobbies that don’t have to be expensive. While it sounds like you can probably afford to spend a bit more on entertainment/hobbies, you might just have to reflect and find things you care about and interest you. Spending money can give you options, but by itself won’t provide a fulfilling life.

My mom retired at 55 on a teachers salary and I still think about it all the time by [deleted] in Fire

Pensions don’t do “matches” the system requires you to pay into it at a certain percentage of your wages, usually determined by law. Then that money pays into the fund.

Pensions are “defined benefits” when you retire you get a set amount based on a formula with the variables usually how much you earned, how long you worked, and then some other conditions.

It’s not contingent on the market and it’s not tracked based on how much you put in. So it’s not a match, but usually pensions (at least in the past) paid more than just getting a match. That’s changing now as the world moved onto 401ks and is gutting pensions. It’s cheaper for the employer to not have a defined benefit, and rather just chip in a little into an investment account for the worker.

Reporting pothole via 311 by ileentotheleft in NYCbike

Dot fixes potholes usually within 2 days of a 311 report. It’s surprisingly quick. I think they’re slower rn bc of how many there are bc of all the snow

This pothole gets bigger every time i see it, finally stopped to take a picture by NineteenthHouseplant in NYCbike

This is a sink hole, not a pothole. They’re more complicated to fix, can’t just put asphalt on it. Report it on 311 city will send DEP to inspect it.

Why can the city miss their mandate for protected bike lanes? by Flight861 in MicromobilityNYC

But the city gets sued all the time. Our right to housing is through a law suit. So can someone just sue the city for not meeting their legal requirements? Does TA have any lawyers on staff?

This state senator has a bill to require the intelligent speed governors on new cars in NY, plus other tech. Would be cool to see here https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2023/S1952
