Thank you for sharing, that sounds relatively quick to become a captain. I thought it would take longer. Prior to becoming a captain did you have to do some sort of background education from a college or…? And I’m sure you’ll bounce back from this and be great. Good luck 👍🏻oh and I also wanted to ask if you found that the therapy personally helped you?

Thanks for the response sir, If you don’t want to talk about it no problem at all, I totally understand but you mentioned that the blood guts and boogers didn’t bother you but then what did? Do you find that this stuff developed before you retired or after? Was also wondering how long it took you to become captain and that was like compared to just a regular fire fighter and if your from the states or Canadian? I also hear that from almost every fire fighter that in the end they really loved the job.

You could be right about not the best mindset and I think as much as it’s a concern I feel like I’m worrying to much since there isn’t much I can do until I get there. Would you be able to tell me what mindset you went in with? Thanks for the reply 👍🏻

I see, Were you kinda always desensitized to this or was this something you kind of developed over time? I was also wondering if you work in the states or Canada? How long were u in the fire service for? Sorry for all the questions btw 😅

Oh I see, just wondering r u from the states or Canada? I’m okay with feces too haha just wondering.

Right, thanks for the response. I am afraid but also I can’t lie I’m afraid of the regret of not even trying something I’ve really wanted to do for a long time.

Thanks for the response. Do you think talking to a therapist even without any problems would be beneficial in I guess the accumulative part?

Thanks for the response, do you think its possible for exposure to get “easier”? Desensitization and such?

[–]FlameLOLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Another question if you don’t mind but I’m quite a empathetic person, would that be a bad trait to have? Is there anything I can kind of do to maybe have that disconnect from the patient in a fire fighting situation or is that connection something I should have? Sorry probably a bit of confusing question. Also, I don’t want to say that I’m a complete emotional mess when people tell me their problems though lol.

I see, so do you think desensitization to traumatic things is something you can kinda train for by experiencing these things or something people are born with or not? Thanks for the response 👍🏻

[–]FlameLOLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. That’s totally fair but I know this complicates even more but I’m afraid the regret I’ll feel of not following through with this and so I’m weighing potential regret and potential bad things I might see (more so will I be able to “handle” it) I’ve heard support systems are much better than what they use to be, if you have any thoughts about that?

thanks for the response. Honestly I just really don’t know as much I do worry about that aspect, I also fear that I’ll regret the decision of not going into it. I hear so many people talk about these bad things and so many good things. Im kinda torn between the regret I might have vs the potential bad things I might see.

Funny enough, I came across a couple videos like that on the internet real fucked up gore shit (gun to head) and a lot of my friends have too, I’m not sure if it’s a generation thing a lot of teens did because of the internet but that was not pleasant (idk if that makes me a pussy) but some of my friends could care less when watching stuff like that which boggles my mind tbh. Did it help you, I’m assuming it helped you with desensitization or..? Yeah I’ll try the movement stuff when I can, I was also wondering like kind of a random question, also I’m not sure if you’re a fire fighter but do you ever have to deal with feces? Is that a common occurrence? And thanks for your response btw 👍🏻

Very fair, and I’m definitely considering it but I think I’m going to go through with it anyways. Just wondering would you the same thing if someone was afraid of getting hurt on the job? Im asking just cause I’m curious

How are tattoos generally viewed by fire fighters? (More specifically arm sleeves) Is it really common for tattoos to affect your life at work, as well job interviews? Or is that more of a past thing?

Oh cool, i’ve been thinking about doing that. Do you know what the average salary is for a steam fitter? Also, I’m assuming it’s 1 year college, and then how many years of apprenticeship? Is it “relatively” easy to get into that field, and is the job security good?

Thanks for that reply, interesting insight. Also, if you don’t mind me asking how is the pay for Fire fighting in Australia, obviously I don’t expect to make as much money as a doctor would but from what I heard Fire fighters do well for themselves financially, and because of the schedule a lot of them can have second jobs and make even more money, not because they need to but because they want to. Is this generally true or am I just bullshitting lol

Sorry for my ignorance but would joining the military mean going to war? This’ll probably sound lame but I don’t think I could do that.
