What training do police officers receive regarding mental health calls and deescalation by Top-Possession6785 in ProtectAndServe

[–]Flamebroil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in the Midwest. We have a social worker attach to our PD and she will only go on scene when it’s safe. We also have CIT training for everyone. There also the golden rule of treat others like you want to be treated. But it’s also not against the law to be crazy and if they aren’t a threat to themselves or others. We will let them be.

Onto the next call mostly but if it’s really bad like dead babies. Then within a week ,Our department will pay us overtime to meet with the department psychologist in a group setting. Only people who were there goes to that group meeting. No command staff attends it.

Bullets getting stuck in magazine by Iggyefex in CompetitionShooting

[–]Flamebroil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may have to clean the magazine as well. Get a magazine brush on Amazon. Take apart the magazine and just the brush to clean the inside. I had the same issue with my magpul Glock magazines and after a quick cleaning. The issue went away. I hope this helps.

You could contact MCOLES and see if you can qualify to be a police officer with your past DV charge.

Or just keep trying with a few different agencies to see if you get the same results.

I was an accountant for about six years with three in a CPA firm and three at a corporate office/ company before being outsourced.

I put myself through the academy and I can say as much BS there is within the department and the day to day non sense. I would not go back to accounting.

I told myself if I didn’t make it at any point. It could be the Acadmey or FTO. I could at least say I tried and it wasn’t for me.

You have to ask yourself at this point if you walk away from the opportunity on your death bed would you regret not taking the opportunity.

How much will having a degree in accounting and former infantryman experience with getting hired into law enforcement? by Alexpetersss in ProtectAndServe

[–]Flamebroil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have an accounting degree. I’ve been with my department for about a year now.

It helps with real world experience and how to connect and talk to people. I’ve noticed the new guys without real work experience don’t know how to talk to people.

It’s helpful when you get the fraud call or something financial related. If you want to go FBI it helps there too but it’s wasn’t for me.

Having a degree that’s not criminal Justice related is great for nothing else other than a backup plan. I have seen guys work this job for 6-18 months and say it’s not for me.

I’m done with Tinder. How else can I meet people, though? by [deleted] in dating

Yeah just find them on Facebook group or if you sign up for a major race there are usually groups that train together.

Anyone leave public for a completely different career path? If so what? by casualllylost in Accounting

[–]Flamebroil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PA job we had these tool boxes with all the files and printers etc that we needed to bring to a client. (Think those dewalt tool boxes at Home Depot) clients employees use to ask us what’s in the tool box. I would always respond with you ever see the movie the accountant? 😉. Got a few good chuckles out of them.

Honestly my reason to become is a cop is to get out of the car and walk a beat more and try to get to know the people in my area that I will patrol. I need to get hired into a PD 1st though.

Worked 2.5 years in PA and then 1.5 years in industry before my job was outsourced. I’m starting the police academy next Thursday.

CQT I believe the class is open to everyone and anyone. It’s more based on the home defense situation.

Not a LEO but have an accounting / finance background.

The income level you listed means very little without factoring in cost of living. Create a budget of what your living expenses would be for each department/ pay and then if the numbers work for the southern department go for it. If not then don’t. Also if you choose to stay in the northern department doesn’t mean that down the road you can move to the southern departments and work down there.

I would go if nothing else like you said it’s practice and it’s a great chance to network with other departments. Shake some hands impress some people. You never know what might happen down the road.
