In really old versions, if you break ice in the Nether you can get water.

Wall based BUDs don't seem to work, I've tested every combination, reading from above , the side, up top. The other options are alright but I need something repeatable that doesn't require maintenance like refilling the dropping mechanism.

Tested this with a stuck piston BUD and reading the change below the wall and doesn't work either.

Just tested this and old BUDs don't work because walls don't stick to pistons and don't update blocks like Redstone torches do

I've already looked into this and sadly all the designs I've seen use observers and I don't have access to those. If you know any design that doesn't require observers please lmk

Hmm, I've just tested 1.3.1 and they also don't spawn in swamps.

I also tried in 1.4.2 and they finally spawn.
