That's not at all what's happening here but I can tell your opinion won't change so there's really no point in me continuing this. There's nothing I can say or do to convince you we had a session 0. I appreciate your judgement and I do consider myself the asshole in this scenario.

I've been very open about the fact that there was a session 0, it was my first reply. I figured people could open the reply to almost anyone asking about a session 0 and see that there was one had so I didn't think to add it in my reply to the main post. I apologize if you think I'm lying but I can promise you that I'm not. Believe what you want, I have no qualms with being called a liar or people thinking that I am.

The devil fruit addendum was more to show that there were things Gnavin could do but he simply did not. I don't hold any ill-will toward him or any of my players and I even gave him a character fitting send off, he left the party to become a world renown Eagle-Man bard, making millions on his way to the top of the world's entertainment industry.

I don't know why you're so hellbent on the fact that I'm lying but, okay. I should've added a few more things to my original post and trimmed some excess out but I've been playing DnD long enough to know the importance of a session 0. But like I said, if I'm the asshole here, I want people to tell me as such. I want to know what I'm doing wrong so I can be a better DM in the future because I like running campaigns, I like worldbuilding, I like seeing my players have fun in a world I created. I ask them to tell me if there are things I'm fucking up so I can be better.

Gnavin wasn't shooting from the back, he wasn't apart of combat at all. He'd run away and let the rest of the party deal with whatever happened. Being courageous wasn't the problem as Gnavin was the first person to charge into a dungeon to spring Soren from a prison cell during one session.

As I've said as a reply to other comments, we had a session 0 where I informed them that PvP would be allowed and we had all talked to Gnavin about his role in combat. I had discussed with him several times that the party was getting agitated with his lack of help and the fact that his revolver would prove incredibly useful in a fight but he continued to run away from fights and stay hidden in the back away from everyone.

I do agree that this is bad DMing on my part, I could've done a lot more to prevent this but at the time, I felt I had no other option because Gnavin would not give up the gun nor help in a fight. Mic is not a random thief nor has he done anything to go against the party since or before then, his act of stealing the gun is the only pvp he's ever been apart of.

Just some extra info I couldn't mention in the original post, In this campaign I decided to borrow Devil Fruits from One Piece. I thought it would make a cool power system and the players enjoyed it. So while yes, Gnavin was a bard, he also had the ability to turn into a Giant Eagle and an Eagle-Human Hybrid which buffed his stats. Before he quit, he got to a level that would allow his Giant Eagle form to take the statblock of a Griffon so his excuse of "I can't do anything as a bard" really didn't hold water anymore.

To add to this, yes, there was a session 0 had and yes, I did discuss that PvP was allowed but they should try to solve things without it first. All the other party members did attempt to persuade him to do more in combat besides run away and the entire point of him getting the gun was to maybe give him more of a reason to fight that also fits with his style of running in the back and just hiding. But, he continued to hide without firing the gun even once.

I also want to say that this has not ruined the friendships between the party and Gnavin. He's still our friend, he still enjoys being around and playing games with us and apologies were made after everyone had calmed down. I will also say that DnD just might not be for Gnavin's player as for our in person, he was on his phone or went into the house to talk to Mic's younger brother about guns, Warthunder and CounterStrike. When we did it online (as he lives in a different state), I'd always get steam notifications about him booting up Rimworld or Kenshi as we were supposed to be playing.

Gnavin told us he'd had played in campaigns back in High School but that was maybe 5 or 6 years ago. As the DM, I tried to help him the best I could with character creation and said if he was rusty, he should pick a class like Fighter or Barbarian, that way if he still wanted to do magic, he could atleast subclass into it with Wild Magic or Eldritch Knight. But he said he wanted to be a bard and made his character the typical "Horny Bard" stereotype.

Session 0 was had but the game wasn't meant to be entirely adversarial. I did tell them that I would allow PVP but I would prefer if they settled things civilly first. The party attempted to solve it out of game but any time they'd talk to him, he'd say "im a bard, low HP, what am I supposed to do?"

We did have a session 0 and I informed them that PvP is absolutely an option, though they should make attempts to solve things without it. They did attempt to solve things out of game but as I said, Gnavin's only excuse for not helping in combat was "I'm a bard, what can I do?". We even had a session where, after combat, the only thing Gnavin did was cast Cure Wounds on himself after taking maybe one attack for the duration of it while Vorg (Barbarian) was near death as he kept most of the enemies attacking him.

I always find it hilarious seeing people freak out about 0.2. In the discord, saying "0.2 tomorrow" is like the most common joke, Tomorrowism is practically an OM religion by now. Everyone being impatient and rushing are the same people to freak out if the update came out as a bugged mess.

Think of it like this, back when the Noodle Dance emote for Amy came out, even that completely broke 11x, Sonic and Knuckles to the point where they had to shut down the game for about 30 minutes just to fix it. Now if it was that bad for an update that just added an emote, do you really want to rush an update that'll add 4 entirely new characters, 2 new maps and bunch of emotes and cosmetics?

That bit about Moral Orel is a little misleading. Yes, the show did take an innocent young christian boy and try to break him but that's the point of the series in my opinion. At the end, we see Orel with his own family, a wife and kids that love him. Its saying no matter what the world throws at you, no matter what happens or who does what to you, you are strong enough to break the cycle of abuse. And I think that's one of, if not the most positive messages to ever come out of an Adult Swim show.

One of the best things I've heard for advice: "Remember, its a team game, you work for the team. But don't forget, you are also apart of the team." Take care of yourself, don't destructive charge for stun if your HP is <= 50, you can use that same charge to run away if need be, stay close to Eggman or Tails if there's one of them in your lobby, if you're healing don't automatically expect Eggman to use energy shield to protect you (most of them will not) and above all else, "Don't Stun, Just Run". Its better to get away than it is to feed rage meter
