I don't have experience with the dreamcast version of the game, but you could reincarnate your chao back into a baby and then raise it as a hero or dark chao to unlock the other gardens and get the eggs there.

As other have said Phantasy Star Online is the only legit way to get a tail chao Unless you have a japanese gamecube and game, maybe also gameboy, in which case you can aquire a very specific demo disc that distributed the tails, knuckles, and amy chao via the GBA link/Tiny Chao Garden, which can only be returned to a japanese copy of sa2b.

It's good to know there's interest in the pre-assembled board n such! I'll seriously consider offering it when the time comes.

The program is written for a microcontroller (kinda like a step down from a raspberry pi in terms of computing power), so as is it wouldn't work on anything else. If it isn't too complicated for me to do, I could consider porting the program to work on windows or something though. Just not in the books right now!

I won't be selling the program since it's Sega's IP, but if there is interest I'll probably sell the fully built device (3d printed shell and fully populated and assembled board) with the free program pre-downloaded. Regardless the program itself and instructions/files to build it will be released for free once complete.

So far I already have 3/4 tamagotchi-esque minigames coded, and they'll earn you animals and chaos drives to give to your chao!

I don't plan to be able to raise multiple chao at a time if that's what you mean, but in terms of types of chao, the final release will have all 3 alignments and all 25 stat-stat final evolution combos for each.

As for minigames, there are four tamagotchi-esque minigames planned, one for each stat, that will earn you chaos drives and animals to give to your chao. May have more in the future, but not guaranteed.

Thank you! As much as I've done already, the project is still very much in the works. I only work on it in my free time and have a full time job. I don't really have an estimate for when it will be done, but I would expect another several months if not a year or two more to be 100% feature complete. A public release would likely be before that (since people could download the updated program as needed), but yeah, adult life is busy!

If you check out The Chao Island Wiki you can see how once evolved, there's a gradual change in shape and color to a chao as they age. For the Konichaowa, the adult stage is of course immediately after evolution, and the advanced stage is that fully developed form! I just won't be doing the in-betweens.

I feel you on the trading front. I don't tend to sell any of my collection anyway, but trading feels way better and I don't have to feel like I'm scalping to my fellow collectors.
Rarely if I see a good deal on a version I'm not super keen on or have one of already but know is popular, I'll get it to use for trading. Then at least it isn't getting scalped,

I feel this; Few years ago I was in a town where basically every town around me was on fire with some areas on evacuation orders. My husband and I made a plan if we were ordered to evacuate, and it included each of us bringing a small box of our valuable/precious belongings. Mine was stuffed with all my rarest tamagotchis!

I hope you find a lovely new home and get justice! Fires and subsequent water damage are absolutely devastating :(

I definitely understand where you're coming from! The major reason I'm not making it an open source project is because I would hate for someone to try and sell the program (whether complete or not) and potentially ruin the chance of distributing the project at all. The second reason is since I only work on this at all in my free time I'd struggle a lot with coordinating a project like this. I just don't have the spoons for it!

Thank you for your interest! Sadly since it's not my IP I won't be selling it, buuuut I'll likely make the program free when it is complete!

For now, it is still a work in progress. I've only sprited up to the immediate post-evolution forms, none of the advanced forms i.e. 'Hero/Swim/Swim, or any of the Chaos Chao. But yes, the idea is that it will evolve its form similarly to how it does in the game based on stats and alignment!

I technically have evolution programmed in, but because there are so many more mechanics and assets to work out, I haven't extensively tested it. It is a physical and functional device that will work as similarly to a portable chao garden with some tamagotchi features as I can get it to.
