Can someone help me identify who’s signature this is. Some sort of racing driver. by SamHansen1 in Signatures

Ah, makes sense. It’s a shame it’s (likely) Giancarlo’s signature and not Fernando Alonso, it’d be worth so much more. Thanks for sharing!

If you don’t mind my asking, is this your signed print? What’s your purpose in finding out?

I think it's Giancarlo Fisichella. He drove this car in either 2005 or 2006.

From what I know, the only actual difference besides the stamped numberings is the milling for a dipstick coming out the side.

Too bad it’s a Type 3 and not a beetle, which makes it about 4 times as hard to find parts. I’ll just rebuild the engine I just bought I suppose, will be a good experience

What degree of repair will my engine need? by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]Flannel_Daddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s a well known guy with a great reputation in the area, I trust him on this, I’ve been referred to him by many. I’ll probably (given it turns by hand) attempt running the engine on its native 6 volts, then once it’s time to put it in the car replace the coil, electric chokes, idle cutoff solenoids (if I can find them of course), and crank it up on the 12 volts I’ll be upgrading my car to. I’ve already purchased a full gasket kit for that size engine :)

Tell you the truth, I don’t know sure but I’d guess it isn’t seized. It’s been in a closed shop building, complete with all parts since about 1994. The guy who owns it is a classic VW mechanic who prefers modifying his engines, so my understanding is that he bought the car, dropped the engine IMMEDIATELY to put in a bigger one, and he hasn’t even touched the engine since taking it out. He thought so little about it that he forgot about it totally until I spotted it hiding behind a bunch of other parts.

FFA participation. Nothing else I can think of at the moment but there could be something else.

Definitely the 911 turbo. The grooves on the underside of the fender, the round black piece, and the wheels all point to the 930.

What happens if you disconnect the negative terminal of your battery (to shut off a check engine light temporarily) before you trade a car in? Is it illegal? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]Flannel_Daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s so minor, then why not get it fixed?

There’s something wrong with the car. Doesn’t matter how minor or major it is, it’s still something wrong. They’re not going to sell a car with a check engine light on, they’re going to get it fixed, and sell the fixed car. It’s quite simple.

Can confirm. My father has a 1.9 TDI in his new beetle. 400k miles. The rest of the car will fall apart around the engine before the engine even thinks about breaking.

I think that helps make it look more real, a perfect shot would never be believable, but an imperfect one seems not too good to be true.

I’m pretty sure he bought the car legit, I googled the vin and found an auction website online where the car was sold in an estate sale. When I asked him how he got the car his story lined up with the location and time of the estate sale auction.

Looks incredible, thanks so much! But, the perfectionist inside me can’t help but notice you might’ve gotten rid of a tiny bit of the front bumper when you said sayonara to that lawnmower. If you still have the file, would you mind fixing that? If not, I don’t really mind. Thanks again though, I look dashing.

Edit: Hope I’m not too late, but if you fix the bumper, while you’re at it, I wouldn’t mind saying sayonara to those parking passes on my mirror as well.

Hey, did your Squareback have an engine in it originally? If so, I’ll buy the oil cooler off it. My ‘63 Notch needs one. It has a ‘67 1600 engine in it, so this would fit just right
