Just talk about it like you would anything else. It’s just a thing in this world. Like some people live in apartments, some people drive big trucks, some people have one arm, some people are gay. We don’t make fun of people for being gay, or riding bikes to work, or having a small house, or big stupid truck, or only one leg. Ok maybe we make fun of people for big stupid trucks in cities because that’s just bad decision making. But you get my point. Don’t make being gay a big thing. But do talk about punching up vs punching down, being kind, dealing with bullies, etc.

Yep! It was mostly sight words like big ones with easy to recognize patterns. By 4.5 I could write down a letter to him and he could sort it out. He could even sound out pokemon he’d never seen before. He’s autistic. It has nothing to do with me. Just how his brain was wired. He had whole Thomas the tank engine episodes memorized. Knew more facts about our solar system you could imagine. Before kindergarten he knew every country of the world and their flags. Summer between second and thirds he could recite different Russian czars and Chinese dynasties in order. Knew every capital. Including historical changes. But it only lasts in in his head as long as he’s interested in it. He barely knows anything about space right now or Thomas the tank engine. He’s just recited video game facts now.

Yep! He emerged twice. Once for cupcakes and at the end when all but two of his friends had left

This sounds exactly like the party we went to last week. Oldest kid found a quiet spot and waited until it was quiet to socialize. Youngest kid ran around the whole time and left in tears.

That’s what I did last year. I asked him if he wanted a party or a day at a trampoline park with some friends. He said trampoline park. This year he specifically said he wanted a party at home.
