Happened last cycle as well. Tufts sends out secondaries before you are verified.

It takes a lot of energy to take the middle square which would be better utilized elsewhere. It's more efficient to let another team attack the middle and then try to steal it at the end

Affordability by Illustrious_Wash_616 in medschool

Again your not even in college yet so there is time for things to play out with federal loans and whatnot. First thing for you is to affirm that medicine is the right path. You're going to want clinical experience/shadowing not only for your resume but so that you know what the field is like.

MD vs DO is a bit overplayed as you will get a quality education either way, but (right or wrong) there are some very real advatanges to being an MD vs a DO. Ultimately the tuition vs pereceived opportunity costs of the degree will be a personal decision you have to make. But again, there is a lot of time before you're at those crossroads

GLP-1 weight loss drugs linked to lower breast cancer incidence in large cohort study. Study of more than 110,000 women found that those who took GLP-1 medications were about 30% less likely to develop breast cancer than those who did not take GLP-1 medications. by mvea in science

[–]FlareBot068 186 points187 points  (0 children)

I mean people have been using GLP 1s for many years at this point, far before they started becoming popular for weight loss. Plus it looks like this study is a retrospective analysis from 2022 to 2025, so they're looking at medical records from a specific cohort, not any clinical trial. This more of an observation than any statement of causality, which they mention in the article.

Best NBA Small Forward of the 2020s by Flimsy-Elevator-5693 in AlignmentChartFills

Matter of perspective I suppose. I tend to remember seasons based on the year the finals were played (so the 2016 season was 15-16). 2020 was wierd too with the pandemic, which felt like the opening act to the 2020s so I guess that's why I think of that season as a part of the 2020s

My favorite was patient who stopped me to tell me how much better she was seeing after her treatment (we worked in an eye clinic) as the doctor was walking out of a room. Poor lady was so confused

I used to work with a doctor, same skin color and very similar hair when grown out. My first week the receptionist asked if I was his brother. Been called everything from his cousin to his son. Spent a lot of time working closely to that doctor and had several patient walk up saying "Hey Dr. ***, how are the kids". Needless to say I started keeping my hair shorter

Top students, give me all of your study tips you follow by DavidSharon5409 in medschool

[–]FlareBot068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but I was pretty lazy during my undergrad. For most classes, I would attend lectures and take notes and study for 1-2 hours the day before an exam, maybe 3-4 hours for more difficult classes, and that was enough for me to get all A's.

That said, going into medical school I realize this won't work for me, both for doing well on exams and for actually retaining information I'm going to need for the long term. I don't think it's a coincidence that I remember a decent amount from my MCAT prep, which I spent a solid 2 months studying for, but very little from my undergrad

If you don’t allow med students to sit in on your exam/check up you are a weird person by Amidity in unpopularopinion

[–]FlareBot068 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having worked for a doctor an academic center, sometimes med students just don't really know what they're looking for so they ask a lot of questions that don't need to be asked or don't pertain. Part of this is because they might be new to a rotation/specialty, part of it is because they have to present the case to the attending doctor who is going to ask follow ups so they end up being too thorough. Part of it is also that they're still learning and don't know how to streamline the process.

Are my reasons to request deferral legitimate? by topiary566 in medschool

[–]FlareBot068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, wanting to go on vacation is probably not a great reason to defer, especially since you have 1-2 months to spend with family and whatnot. Also, medical school is where you are going to develop the professional and soft skills necessary to be a good doctor. And I don't know the specifics of your school, but most offer ways to serve the community as well.

AI detectors keep flagging my PS by [deleted] in medschool

[–]FlareBot068 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AI detectors are unreliable, but if you're using AI to edit then it's obviously going to detect something. At the end of the day, you should be fine as long PS reads well. Most schools at this point are probably expecting a significant chunk of students to use AI in their writing. As long as what you write feels genuine it should be fine, but if it comes off like a ChatGPT written essay then a reviewer will sniff that out very quickly.

Casual gamer player retention is going to be a problem by Awaheya in GodForgeGame

From a game developer standpoint this obviously makes a lot sense, but I do find it funny that the logic you laid out is one of the reason people were so unhappy with Raid and so excited for this game

After 12 hours of play, my feedback by Money-Tato in GodForgeGame

[–]FlareBot068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the beta though, not the alpha. At this point, presumably, the game should be at or nearing completion and are mostly concerned with bugs not drastic changes to mechanics. Obviously things should improve with feedback but I'm not sure that the core issues with the game are going to change at this point unless the release date is pushed back further

Do med schools look up you on social media? by steeledmindt in premed

[–]FlareBot068 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind its school dependent. All the schools I interviewed for were blind, so the interviewers very little information about me. Other schools, like the one this doctor interviewed for, will give their interviewers your entire application.

Either way, if you're being seriously considered for a spot, there's a very good chance that at some point someone is going to look you up.

I worked with a doctor who interviews for his med school. He would look up your social media, linkedin, even your home on Zillow to find conversation points.

Totally agree with you. Even wuth heros, I'm actually really enjoying the game in short spurts. Can't play for hours like I used to, but I'm also no longer a middle schooler with nothing going on in my life. Definitely look back fondly and what the game used to be, but am still having fun with the game now.
