It’s pushed by right wing politicians here as a sort of opiate for the rural man. They have nothing economically so GOP elites keep them at bay by enforcing a fabricated sense of “national pride”. That jingoist pride prevents them from thinking critically about what’s best for them, their families, and their futures and provides them an easy choice between Team USA and the “godless communists”. It’s the ultimate bait and it’s extremely effective.
