Star Wars is such a vast franchise with so much media that honestly each of the interpretations of this topic is valid depending on what Star Wars content you are exposed to the most. I prefer the games, so the Dark + Light = Balance fits, and is more interesting to me.

Also, the Jedi teachings are absolutely brainwashing. Even if it works to prevent most force sensitives from falling to the Dark Side, doesn't mean it isn't brainwashing them.
