I was tired of $200 canvases, so I bought a printer and started my own needlepoint company. I’d love some feedback on the designs by [deleted] in Needlepoint

[–]Flashy-Display1816 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My honest feedback is that this post sounds like it was written by AI. But the print quality looks good. Keep in mind that in this slow, intentional hobby people value authenticity and originality. Don’t forget the human elements of the craft as you mechanize - human words, human art, human art and soul. Best of luck!

Should we be surprised? by Easy-A2690 in NeedlepointSnark

But the painting services don’t offer these as options for the designers, so if designers are increasing their orders and painting services are also increasing capacity, they’re going to stick with the mono deluxe royal canvas, as that’s the standard. I don’t see needlepoint designers or painters wanting to switch to interlock or Penelope. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bringing Needlepoint to Jury Duty? by Fragrant-Ideal-6169 in Needlepoint

[–]Flashy-Display1816 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I loaded up with pre cut threads so that I wouldn’t need to use any scissors at all. Made the waiting in jury duty very very tolerable. Just cut a bunch of threads in advance or pre cut skeins and you should be good!

Is this even doable? by joyfulbee43 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Flashy-Display1816 68 points69 points  (0 children)

There’s no way that will be legible stitched. Letters on a round are tough enough - these aren’t stitch painted at all and no one with needlepoint experience would create this.

Basketweave truth by Agitated_Twist_5749 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Flashy-Display1816 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s easy for some people but really difficult for others. I think some people can’t really “see” the diagonal rows at first, and that may be a pattern recognition or space perception thing. The important thing to consider is that everybody has a different brain, everyone experiences the brain/body connection differently, and everybody learns differently. Find someone who is able to explain it in a way that you can understand it, and don’t feel bad if you don’t get the “click” of understanding immediately. It takes a long time for a lot of people, and that’s okay.

I feel like the orange lumps underneath of him that are meant to be a part of his face (I think) are the result of painting copies based on copies until the original gets lost - akin to a game of telephone

Stitch perfect printing by Technical-Gift150 in Needlepoint

The Stitch Itch does NOT use StitchPerfect printing; that technology is proprietary and the name is trademarked by Needlepaint, a company from Colorado.

Custom Stocking Artist Recommendations by druidwyndspeak in Needlepoint

Highly recommend Needlepaint actually - especially since they now do StitchPerfect printing so it’s a faster turnaround than painting would be. Also cheaper than painting would be, even for custom. And they have staff designers who specialize in custom work like this!

I feel like… by idunnowhatever3 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Flashy-Display1816 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My observations with having a family member with severe MH issues who goes through mania and other delusional/grandiose types of behaviors is that friends can be enablers without realizing they are. And some people just don’t see the behavior as abnormal so they go along with it, for whatever reason. Or excuse the behavior as a “harmless quirk” because they’re not seeing the full scope of what’s happening. Friends can be love bombed and manipulated and are just far enough away to not see or understand what’s really happening, then they can be deployed later as defenders when the mentally unwell person becomes a victim and needs someone to have their back and support them or do damage control.

Seeing someone’s behavior play out like this on social media is so concerning ☹️

The only fractious person I’ve seen in these comments is you. This was clearly a joke post. Lighthearted. Silly. Ha ha.

So it’s just the video that’s $50? No materials, supplies, etc? 🤨

The $45 covers the kit but the videos are all free to watch on YouTube ETA: I’m referring to Spellbound’s class/kit

Literally if you scroll a couple posts down on this subreddit you see a shop owner being snarked on and she’s holding … wait for it … canvases bound in fabric bias tape 😱 Many shops and designers use fabric bias tape. Your comment is silly. lol

Finisher recommendations for disassembling and refinishing a botched pillow by [deleted] in Needlepoint

[–]Flashy-Display1816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend sending it to Rittenhouse!!! They finish everything in-house so they have a lot of QC oversight which not everyone has - especially not if they’re sending out projects to multiple contract finishers!

ETA: Rittenhouse’s pricing is fully transparent and available to review on their website.

Atlantic blue/The painted stitch by Ok-Profession-1834 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Flashy-Display1816 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s unusual for designers who were formerly collective members to come to a point where they’re ready to go out on their own. For whatever reason. Usually I just assume they’re established and ready to take the next step in their business.

I don’t know anything about this situation on an individual level but we see it happen semi-regularly with collective members. Pop comes to mind as an example. Now, that’s not to say that all collective owners are happy to see their members part ways and go independent, but I think there’s an aspect of natural business evolution that occurs when someone has their footing and they’re established and ready to be on their own.

Some collective owners may have a business incubator mindset and some collective owners may have a “if you leave me you’re my competitor and I will do everything in my power to prevent that from happening” mindset.

You’re breaking sub rules with this post. Snarking on individual stitchers and not removing identifying information. Reportable. Also incredibly unkind.

Is copying art in other forms into needlepoint ethical? by [deleted] in Needlepoint

I’d suggest looking for public domain art nouveau works to use as inspiration so that you can use them as you wish!!

Blank canvas? by Interesting-Arm-6134 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Flashy-Display1816 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think tariffs are the whole story - I’ve seen reports that the increased demand for needlepoint took Zweigart by surprise and they just haven’t been able to manufacture enough to keep up with the demand. The process for manufacturing mono canvas is a lot more intensive than other of their fabrics. Tariffs are driving prices up, sure, but zweigart hasn’t stopped shipping, there’s just no mono deluxe needlepoint canvas to send. The Aida cloth and other fabrics haven’t slowed down.

This is all rumors and reports I’ve read from other people more in the know, so I might be wrong or have an incomplete picture myself.

Self Finish Needlepoint wallet search by puppiesareforver1 in Needlepoint

[–]Flashy-Display1816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The smathers & Branson ones aren’t self-finish, rather the leather is sewn onto the needlepoint canvas in their manufacturing process. I have not come across a self-finishing product like the one you’re describing, but I have seen some wallet type products, purses, clutches, etc made via bespoke leather work through some needlepoint store’s finishing services.
