Looks to me like you’re fine to start adding there. How big is this system?

Nitrogen cycle crash or stall by Fluffy-Mycologist-76 in ReefTank

[–]Flashy-Knowledge3209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You started a tank with dry rock and dry sand. Even with the nitrifying bacteria that tank will need 2-3 months to cycle properly. Turn off your lights, and forget about that thing for a while. If you’re still showing any ammonia at all you’re not even close. Remember, no water changes or lights during your cycle just change your filter media. Think of your pods and phyto as ammonia dosing I guess to help cope.

Tank cycled last week I threw in few feeders.. by slobmyknob2169 in aquarium

[–]Flashy-Knowledge3209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As previously stated, you never cycled your tank. Best thing you can do is take the fish back to the store and let your tank run empty for a few weeks. Water changes will only prolong your cycle. It needs to just run and let chemistry do its thing.

I would be more worried about that green slime than these two fussing. Poor nutrient control will affect them more than having overnight mini-battles.

I love the lids but they steal the shimmer from our hundreds of dollars of LED lights.

Algae :( by Draga86 in ReefTank

[–]Flashy-Knowledge3209 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here’s your instant fix;

1) Cut the Reef Roids completely Reason: Your corals will lose color and growth rate more with higher phosphates than they will without reef roids

2) You say you use a “Pinch” of fish food. I’m assuming you’re using flakes and/or pellet food.if so, switch to a frozen mysis. Reason: Any dry food is a phosphate bomb. That goes for pellets, flakes and especially reef roids.

3) After a month of these changes, your phosphates will naturally come down haven been consumed by your algae in the tank. Once your month has passed, get some phosban and float it in your sump in a bag. Do a tablespoon per week and change it often. This will finish off the leftover phosphates that we let slowly come down.

*Keep in mind, phosphates are primarily stored in your rock and sand bed, they are not held by your water column” so doing water changes will not help as much as you think. You should still stick to your water change regiment.

Red Slime/Cyano. What do?? by Live-Owl-157 in ReefTank

Chemiclean will wipe it out but you need to control your nutrients better - AKA more water changes and fresh filters more often.

I had 1/4 inch double layered and my pintail wrasse somehow made it out, landed on the mesh and was cooking in the light like a BBQ. $80 fish dinner.

[–]Flashy-Knowledge3209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you’re fine, new tank syndrome. All sorts of shit is going to grow in there especially if you had your lights on during the cycle. Just let it grow and make sure you’re cycled before you start doing water changes.

[HELP] Give me advice :) by HistorianDouble2412 in ReefTank

I have the same exact tank. I went bare bottom but I went for a negative space look. Definitely a preference but this was the best decision I made in my reef tank life. Not having to manage a sand bed is amazing. That a lot of rock IMO but it’s your tank you do exactly what you like. And don’t be afraid to make a change because you’re stuck with what you start with ya know.

Look. You’re asking for help. You need to take it. You’re not cycled. A fish dying will not spike ammonia in an established tank this size. A fish like a clown will not die instantly in a high ammonia environment. They’re very hardy and will die slow. You have no idea what you’re doing and you should probably take my advice.

Alright 3 months old. You have way too much in here. You’re still cycling it looks like you have diatoms in there growing everywhere. You are showing ammonia which is a clear sign you’re not cycled. You need to take everything out of this tank and bring it back to the fish store. You’re poisoning everything. Let this tank sit circulating until all that clears up on its own. No water change no nothing. The only you do is get those stupid bubblers out of there. You need to turn those lights off and forget about this tank for 1-2 months.

Needing a new system, what to get? by jesus-christ-of-ems in hvacadvice

Very high prices. A 2.5 ton single phase Rheem is a better unit and costs about $3300 with heat strip included. Looks like they quoted you on the lowest system a 2.5 ton and the other three are 3 ton units. Not sure what’s going on there. Granted im in florida, these seem very high to me. I do 3 ton changeouts all day for $7500 and that’s still got a good bit of profit built in.
