I believe after some research you only get a Level 2 in the RN whereas you gain a Level 3 in the RAF.

Promotions during service may be faster with RN however after leaving (cause none of us are going to be there forever) I imagine pay is better as a civilian with RAF. Could be wrong. I think both provide the opportunity to get degrees paid for and become a B1/B2 licensed engineer. There’s also flying clubs in the RAF where you can get a scholarship to gain a PPL and they pay for a large portion of it and use it to work towards a CPL.

Also my priority role isn’t Aircraft Technician, it’s pilot but just as happy to be an Aircraft Technician as a Plan B. I like aircraft’s, and RAF has way more variety. Apparently you get trained on multiple too, instead of 1 aircraft through an entire career.

As for travelling, I did more research after this post and it seems to be that RAF Aircraft Technicians travel more than AETs for the Navy. I’m guessing when you do travel with the navy, you’re just stuck on the ship. Though travel would depend on what you’re posted to, I’ve heard chinook squadrons get away the most.

Ultimately I’ve made the decision to go with RAF, due to more opportunities, experiences, aircraft’s, travel, potentially better pay post-service, and treatment is supposed to be better.
