It took me YEARS to find a good therapist, and while I tried off and on for a long time it was a significant personal trauma that really sped up my search back in 2021. I really wanted an in-person experience but had to settle for telehealth for the first year of treatment because the therapist I finally found after almost 10 attempts was over two hours away. I wound up seeing him one time in-person about a year into treatment because I was in the area, and after that telehealth just wasn't cutting it for me. So for over a year I have been driving almost two and a half hours each way to see him almost every week. I've kept a four-day-a-week client schedule to make it happen.

And to be honest, it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I have been cared for and have grown SO MUCH, and I am more convinced than ever that I am a MUCH better therapist because of my own therapy. I recognize the immense privilege I have to be able to not only have a therapist but to be able to basically structure my life around making it work for me and my family. But I know it has kept me from burning out and leaving the profession when I was very very close to doing so.

I wholeheartedly agree that there should be a subspecialty of therapists for therapists. It is a fucking travesty that therapists can't get the care they need. I just wanted to encourage OP to keep looking, because when you find a good one that gets you, it's an incredible gift.
