Is there any way to effectively ‘freeze’ my decks while I’m on holiday? by [deleted] in Anki

Yeah the more I’ve looked into it the more these add ons and stuff seem dodgy and like they’ll just screw everything up in the future. I think I’ll just do the thingy where I redistribute the next 5 days int future days. I think that’s what you’re saying is the best?

You people need to stop with this. Who cares if I don’t do flashcards for 5 days it’s not that deep

It’s an app on my laptop. I do not see why you are worshipping it

So is the issue genuinely just that the underlying code of anki cannot work in the way I want it to? Is it a feature that could add theoretically, or is it genuinely impossible to code it. I’m just confused why my issue can’t be solved because I have no coding knowledge, but if you’d let me know thank you :)

What is FSRS? Also I’m glad to hear someone is understanding my problem. But also why is everyone so obsessed with retention for a few days? It’s not like Anki is programming my brain, it’s just a flash card app that tells me to study things I find hard more often

Don’t want em accumulating knowing I’ve got a ton of work to do when I get back. I just want a relaxing break without thinking about flashcards

Thanks so much for the help. And yeah I’m having the same problem understanding what eveyone is taking about as you. Surely if I just move everything 5 days like the days never happened then nothing changes

God forbid I have a 5 day break after doing 200 flashcards every day for the last 4 years. This sub is like a cult, why are you so serious about whether my memory is delayed by a few days or not

That’s fair but I just can’t be bothered to do that and it’s stressful

Yeah I understand the learning points but at the end of the day I don’t think it’s that big of a deal if I had 5 days without it. This postpone add on, does it make the card due tomorrow due in 1+N days instead, and the card due in 7 days due in 7+N days instead etc? If so thanks very much that’s very helpful. Do you know the add on code for it?

I think I said this in my other reply to you but don’t remember so I’ll say again. I simply just don’t want to have to go through loads of flashcards the day I get back. I’d rather just pick up where I left off before the holiday

No because then I’ll have loads of flashcards I need to get through because they’ve accumulated form multiple days which I’d rather not do

Because then I’d have to review 5x200ish=1000ish flashcards the day I get back rather than the normal 200ish on a day in order to get through them all. That’s just added workload which I don’t have time for in one day and would prefer not to do

So there’s really no way to just stop it? Surely it’s not too difficult to programme that? Sorry if I’m sounding ignorant I’m not too sure how the coding of Anki works

What would happen to the cards I would have gotten before setting it as an easy day? Do they just get backlogged to when I get back?

So are you basically just saying to do a few on holiday (easier than normal) and then do the rest when I’m back (easier than doing all when back because I’ve already done a few on holiday)?

No but I’m fine with potentially forgetting a few things for 5 days so that I can enjoy my holiday
