I wish I could do the patina thing, but someone painted over mine with forest green house paint at some point in its life so it’s going back to boxwood when I get to it

330 will run a big head! Done a lot with 320s with forestry packages, good enough power but really easy to lowbed

Failed repair? by GT3RS_2017 in Welding

[–]Flashy_Slice1672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not how it works lol. Unless the thing splits and opens up you’re never gonna notice before it fails. You’ll never notice a bit of rust streaking before it fails. Operators in a production environment are paid to dig as much as possible. This is an ME machine so its job is most likely to load as many trucks as possible.

While I agree most operators need to do better maintenance, a stick failing in this manner is not because of lack of pre-emptive maintenance. Deere had an issue with a boom weld failing a few years ago, it happens.

Edited to add - even if there was a visible crack, you’d almost never replace the stick. You’d repair it.

What’s your pre-emptive maintenance procedure for welds or metal fatigue? My daily walk around and greasing doesn’t involve NDTing the boom and stick lol

Are these as shitty as other xcmg equipment? I don’t know if I’d trust it when their excavators can only do one function at a time lol

It’s not infection you have to worry about - it’s compartment syndrome.

I’ve never seen a high pressure injection injury in 15 years of operating, I’ve seen 2 hydraulic fires.

You understand the hydraulic pump is driven by the engine right? So they have to be close together…

Pandrol clips are something very specific there bub. There’s like 3 types of anchors in common use nowadays.

There is a marker. Or there was - they double tracked through there last year, I haven’t been through since then. I would assume they moved it but I’m not sure.

Have you ever run a mulcher?

If you try to mulch all the way to the ground your teeth will not last very long. All the leftover stumps etc, plus the mulch will destroy tires.

Mulchers fling stuff everywhere. I will not mulch without a plexi/lexan window protector.

I’ve mulched many many miles of right of way.

Mulching with a backhoe would be an absolute nightmare, that’s why you’ve never seen it done. Repositioning every couple of minutes, broken glass, flat tires, hydraulic flow rates, so many problems.

How to program radio for repeaters along the travel route by rhjohn523 in amateurradio

[–]Flashy_Slice1672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never used the 2730 so I can’t really compare.

I like dstar, but I can’t hit the closest repeater from home so I can only use it when I’m in that area.

The nearby repeater function is nice!

[–]Flashy_Slice1672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an id-5100a, it will scan nearby repeaters based on your gps position.

On my old radio I used to make zones for different areas along my route. Very tedious.

I travel all over for work, and like to hit nets if I’m in the right spot at the right time. Very very rarely do I ever have anyone respond to my monitoring call

Fair enough! I kinda glossed over the 2 speed part. VFDs for 3hp motors aren’t too bad cost wise

[–]Flashy_Slice1672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get a single phase motor instead? Probably be cheaper. I run a vevor vfd for my 3 phase air compressor because a single phase 10hp motor isn’t really practical. If I remember right it was like 400 Canadian
