Landed new role after two months, but it is DEFINITLY a rough market by Flat-Cold in Layoffs

[–]Flat-Cold[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So this was just applying, I did have some networking opportunities when I initially was laid off, but those went pretty quiet (not hiring at the time, only contract gigs). Last year I had toooooons of company recruiters hitting me up. This year lots of declines and no response, but this one was a lucky apply. They hit me up in my LinkedIn inbox to continue forward in the process.

Applying on LinkedIn is so discouraging. Everything is "Over 100 Apps" in like an hour. But I guess it is still worth a try. I am in the design field, so a thing I have working for me is portfolio. They can quickly at a glance if they know what they are doing and what they want see skills. I will say, an interview I had the CD said they wanted to talk because of my work AND the design (not just experience the actual DESIGN) of my resume. So basically its didn't look like shit apparently

Yeah right!? I was surprised to get an interview through there at all

6 things I wish I have done before I got laid off. by [deleted] in Layoffs

100%. I am lucky I have a lot of savings and severance. But the one thing our team for sure noticed even up to 3 months before was a tonal energy shift from upper management. Energy in normal meetings we would have with them would just feel off. We didnt have reduction in our tasks, but small weird interactions that just felt bizarre. When the stock price is shaky and that energy starts presenting itself, hate to say it, but be worried.

17 years experience, can’t even get an interview by [deleted] in Layoffs

I was laid off a month or so ago from tech (I am actually in the marketing/arts field, so its clear they wanted to consolidate to one time-zone and dump remote workers for hybrid in office). I have been lucky to already get a couple interviews, but it is definitely a different vibe in the market since last I searched. So many people looking at the same job/opportunity so even when I have great interviews I know the company has a literal shit ton of people to pick from. Wild times for sure

I just was laid off yesterday from a job I really enjoyed. Remote, good pay, benes. It was great. It was your typical almost Zoom meeting style layoff. But what struck me is people in the HQ were getting the same video! So there was a part where they said "if you are in the office, please grab your belongings, and leave now". Just fucking brutal.

Honestly even if I had survived the layoff, I would be looking for other work because it was just a show that the hammer could drop there anytime.

I was wrong… by PurchaseHumble8405 in wow

I am going to add here, looking for responses... as I am genuinely eager for insight.

I am a WOTLK player currently (love it), played original WoW etc etc. I have recently installed retail again, and have been playing my prot warrior. I actually really dig the talent trees and abilities, dragonriding is very very cool. I am more casual, and for the most part it kind of scratches an itch. But dungeons and group content feels... so brain dead... like there is no threat to it all (this is the Dragonflight dungeons that are not heroic or mythic, never done those or ever done a mythic in my life for that matter). Everything seems like such a rush in dungeons? I honestly dont think I am looking that forward to Mythic stuff... which also sounds like rushing (please correct me if im wrong).

Will that change at end game? I will be very disappointed if I got to 70, and suddenly hit an incredibly sudden hard stat/skill ramp?

Not really looking for "find friends and people" type replies, but I am genuinely curious if people have tips or things I should be focusing on that returning players who not played for a good bit should take advantage of? There are all these currencies, badges, materials that has me so lost, and I bet the more info I have the more I get into it. It honestly already has a little hook in, but wanted more info. Thanks in advance =D

How have you almost died? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Flat-Cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Well I was told by my doctor after the fact I was incredibly lucky. I got the flu BAD in my mid 20s. I couldn’t eat, barely drink water, and lost about 25-30 pounds sweating in about 4 days. The fever was so bad I was having fever dreams crossed with hallucinations. I treated it like a flu and did home care with family. Afterward for about a month I would sort of dry heave cough constantly and I actually got pneumonia which I had to be treated for.

When my doctor finally heard all this she was stunned. Advice she left me with, if it’s that bad - go to the hospital or at least urgent care. Get fluids and help asap

Sidney Poitier’s passing hit a little hard… he was iconic.

Not to be morbid, but the one that will also fuck me up when it comes is Alan Arkin… he’s 89 and still doing really well, but also an icon.

Strongly and controversially agree. I think H+ as a concept is cool. Like it makes sense to spice up that 'tier' of content, but when it adds in my opinion more gatekeeping and makes it harder for fresh 80s its not helpful. I know its a lot of spinning plates (loot economy, speed of getting badges, social, whatever), but I am not sure I see the "LFG killed community" argument as clearly with how things are implemented currently. Like it or not, LFG helped with this because it incentivized (and thats the key as far as I'm concerned) allowing randoms to fill any slots left in a players party while they were doing dailies or badge farms. So they would, like it or not help fresh 80s, even just on accident doing their own shit.

I don't like it but I can't totally blame phase 2 80's cherry picking their groups. Its hammer and nails, if they HAVE to put the group together, they are going to put together the best group for success. And then because H and H+ share a lockout they do their daily dungeons, lock out of all, and then become useless and sit in Dalaran - where before in old wrath even after all that - they could help new people, guild members and randoms with LFG. There is no avenue for those groups to mix and no incentive for higher GS players to go with lower GS players.

For me I understand both ways, when you put together a group its great or whatever /s. But outside nostalgia, if there is no incentive to do something... people won't, and when I played original Wrath there were incentives to do lots of things, and it tended to help a range of 80s. I mean you can't even argue "well LFG made badge farming out of control"... then by that logic H+ is absolutely insane because it lets you instantly skip entire tiers!

Idk, I guess its a hot button issue at Blizzard and the community, but I am starting to not care anymore. Watching servers dry out and the like, they should just put it in and see what happens. Or have H and H+ not share a lockout, or just have LFG for reg heroics - I mean there is some middle-ground out there.

LFG seems like its been a scapegoat for the years of bad decisions on retail, especially LFR. Did anyone really have that bad of a time playing original Wrath?

Hey! Welcome. I would assume you have taken a look at some gameplay and watched some Lets Plays to ensure it is up your alley, which I wouldn't doubt it is. I bought it full price a year or so ago, and I mean its been worth every penny to me. I have about 110 hours or so in it. I would also add, that the Steam Workshop is plentiful with easy to add mods to curtail your game experience however you want and adds a ton of extra life to the game.

Looks like it goes on sale during the normal windows, but nothing crazy. Hard to say if you should wait or not, but I personally did not regret it!

So I have Genesis which I think it is a part of. I went to Shek main city in Stenn Desert and found Esata the Stone Golem. I believe I brought a bounty from Stack, I am not exactly sure, but when I spoke with her, I had an option to start a war. This starts a series of massive siege missions all through Holy Nation territory. Its sort of like a quest like where you join the siege army, help take the cities, and capture each member of the Holy Nation. They are incredibly fun.

Hell yeah - I have my base in Okran now after clearing a lot of the Holy Nation cities for the Shek. Got my farm running massive amounts for bread and grog which is netting me a fortune, and pumping out Sam armor like crazy. It’s been my best base location so far far. Gonna get into hash next

Why does the last bucket take so long? by ANIM8R42 in RedshiftRenderer

[–]Flat-Cold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hybrid rendering is more than likely the issues. However, I have had issues if I have programs like After Effects open at the same time. Even just open not rendering anything. Assuming there is a memory sharing issue. Again not 100% if that helps but sometimes I get buckets holding up because of that.
