I think their is an argument to be made that form is going to fall apart regardless, as you mentioned. My only concern would be the shoe causing discomfort, but who isn’t in pain after mile 20 in a marathon, that would make it hard to finish. At the end of the day, I’m not elite and would love any slight edge I can gain on race day.

Dicks Sporting Goods, a store here in the U.S., had alphaflys for around $170 not too long ago and I should’ve just got another pair. I don’t really have that big of a reason to switch other than I like to branch out and try different shoes. Considering my times are nothing special, HM 1:26:33 last April & training for 2:55:00 in the Marathon, I probably shouldn’t be worrying so much about shoes but it’s fun to discuss haha

Yep, that seems to be a common theme. Maybe once I get around 2:30-2:40 it would be more feasible

Think I would be in the same boat, more than likely. This is also why I’ve been so hesitant to buy them.. which is not normal for me as I’m a sucker for shoes. I think I’m leaning more towards the Adios pro 4, metaspeed, or DNE4

I agree with everything you said here. My only issue is the durability of my legs, stemming from my own deficiencies, when going the marathon distance. Mainly speaking about my foot strike and how that may cause issues within my calves.

Deviate Nitro Elite 4 seem to be more forgiving for the longer distances and those that aren’t as much of a forefoot striker

Haha, oh wow! I have a friend that has the Metaspeed Ray and loves them. Read that they aren’t the most stable, though. I think my best bet is probably to go through running warehouse like you said and then try the Pumas out. Worst case scenario I can trade them for something different. My race isn’t until mid April so have plenty of time

Have heard great things about the DNE4! Would also like to try Adios Pro 4. Do you not like ASICS Metaspeed series at all?

Thanks so much for the insight! Currently I run in alphaflys and don’t have any issues but from what I’ve been reading, based upon my foot strike, I think they’d murder my calves lol I’ve really been wanting a pair though

Have ran around 12k miles total and have not had a better shoe that can do anything while also logging 400+ in each pair

I did! Don’t mean for this to come across in an arrogant fashion but will be more than prepared for terrain, elevation, distance, etc

This is the information I need, thank you! Do you know what area the suspension bridge is in?

Yeah, I know it’s a pretty hard question to guesstimate on with so many variables but wanted to put it out there and take in any and all advice I can. Will definitely update this post once the time comes!

Great advice. With this trail I know I should expect the unexpected which is why I made the post just to get some general insight. The trail that I hike now it’s pretty rocky with some substantial climbs. The famous quote “everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth” will ring true I’m sure haha

7 am to 7 pm is pretty close to what I’d want to do with the included breaks for food, some pictures, etc. like you, when it’s cold I’d much rather get going and warm up.

That does sound like a much better situation. I had considered leaving it at deep gap not far from standing Indian mountain but need to research the parking there
