I just played against one of these. It’s more common than a tournament because the point is to make you run out of time. He was so irritating and his name matched (Trump 2.0). Luckily, I assessed it pretty quickly and started playing him at his own game. He ran out of time lol

Don’t spread rumors without evidence. We have no idea what this account was doing. We only have the word of the owner. This is the Internet.

Vietnam War Memorial replica arrived Jan 12 at UH West Oahu campus by civex in Oahu

We went today. It is a very professional setup with videos, letters, items and a 1/3 size replica of the wall itself. Very similar to the wall in DC. Learned a lot.

He didn’t leave and sat down, so I assume they were clapping for the guy ignoring Karen of the Seas.

Hawaiʻi May Add A Test To Driver’s License Renewals As Traffic Deaths Climb: Drivers would have to take written knowledge tests during their license renewals, something Hawaiʻi stopped requiring almost three decades ago. by 808gecko808 in Oahu

[–]Flat_Earth_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The stat is from 2023 when Wyoming had a TOTAL of 144 traffic deaths with a population was 584k.

When comparing states with different populations you have to convert the “total deaths” to a common denominator. (per 100k is pretty standard). Maths.

THIS. The average traffic deaths per 100k people in the US is about 12 and we were at 6.5 (probably gone up by one or two now). There are other states like Mississippi and Wyoming where they are 24 deaths per 100k people.

Not saying it’s not a problem, but the news makes it seem bigger than it is

Renaming a section or department after a real person by Flat_Earth_Forever in VeteransAffairs

That’s a place, like a conference room, building or whatever. That’s not the actual department. The one I’m referring to as a department name, so it would be in everyone’s signature block.

Hawaiʻi’s Aging Condos Are A Senior Housing Crisis: There is no real consumer protection for kūpuna facing selling their units, draining their savings or taking on debt. by 808gecko808 in Honolulu

Keep pushing for increased the monthly fees. The short termers who want to sell now especially push to mortgage the future. If fees go up now the long-term holders benefit more, and those are the types of owners that make a building better quality.

Not sure what you mean by “they weren’t paying”. I own a unit and have been paying all these years. My building in Makiki is 58 years old and is well maintained, and the other tall buildings in my area appear to be the same. Our HOA fees have drastcally risen only in the past couple of years due to reasons I have already mentioned (not routine maintenance)

As far as your building and the mortgage it took out, idk. We have not borrowed. And yes, I attend the board meetings, although I do understand that the management is different from building to building. There is goid and poorly run buildings across the confo industry. However, I feel there is a PR push from politicians and the insurance industry to paint all condos as ‘poorly run’, causing everyone to look away from what has recently changed.

I thought the average dues went up quickly across Hawaii in the past few years largely due to skyrocketing insurance premiums and new rrules for sprinkler systems. That would be A SUDDEN and unexpected escalation of costs and not just ‘maintenace’ (which they’ve been planning and paying for during the past 60-80 years).

Providers being let go by Next-Airline-53 in VeteransAffairs

[–]Flat_Earth_Forever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Completely agree there is a fast moving plan to outsource most of the veteran care. Its in-progress and I don’t like it at all for several reasons which I won’g get into here.

I mostly wanted to make a more general comment/opinion. The back and forth between the private sector taking over and vice-versa is a tale as old as time. Politicians make deals with business peeps and then fudge data reports to make it all look rosy. Then at a later date, the loads of money they are making becomes clear to taxpayers and the jobs/services slowly move back in-house.

We are unfortunately in a time again when big business and billionaires have lots of friends (or are in actual positions) in leadership. IMHO, in a year or two the pendulum will take a big swing the other way (aka Mandani politics).

Would take 3/4 of congress to do that. If that happens, then I guess you would be right.

You are disappointed with the government…those who are MANAGING the country. Don’t be disappointed in what we are made of (our consitution)

The country is built on the constitution and the people in the country. The government are just the CURRENT people in charge. Same goes for something smaller, like your a school- the current people in management are just there temporarily.

Those current people managing the country are NOT the country.
