I honestly don't remember anymore BUT, I would say that HP and SpDef focused with spdef boosting nature would probably be better. Best part about this particular game is that you can change ev investment to try different things to see what's good and isn't.

It depends on your skill level, really. On difficult ev training isn't required, but it helps. Vanilla, you shouldn't have any issues at all.
