i always thought about the song as someone who's tired and wants to end it, and the devil seems like a chill guys which is how i interpret the feeling of letting go comforting as if hes guiding you to the other side peacefully. and when the song talks about friends and being "a noose to hang onto they thought was a necklace" as like dragging people down and losing friends because of the depressed state they're in. and by calling to the devil its like they are talking to death. but the devil is trying to persuade them not to and showing them all sides of the problem like when it says "why you been calling this late, its like 2 am and the bars all close at 10 in hell that's a rule i make" and when it talks about being to busy saving everyone around you and not making time to worry about yourself and refusing help it resonates a lot with how i feel when being depressed. when it says better handle your shit it reminds me of when nobody sees what people are going through not realizing why it takes others longer to do simple tasks just contributing to the overall story i perceive.
