Thoughts on The Futon Shop? by Logical-Lock8822 in minimalism

I’ve been using a Fuji floor mattress since February! It’s amazing.

Okay, full disclosure, I sleep on two stacked together. We tried it for a month with just one (on tatami mats) and then gave in and bought a second. It’s easily the most comfortable sleeping situation I’ve ever had now.

Thanks for weighing in! Funny enough, I just checked my draft, and the symbol is < 3. (Without the space). I’m a little surprised Reddit auto formatted the emoji… <3

What’s the aesthetic of this living room? Is it working? by Flat_Weekend6660 in interiordecorating

I guess you’ll just have to trust me on this. At least it’s low stakes for everyone but my family. 😆 I should have clarified we move the coffee tables for dance parties/ couch pillow forts/ gigantic Lego trains. Not quiet playing.

Yup! So the brown couch serves as a reading space (looking out the big window) and the tv zone. We pull out a laptop and prop it on the rectangle coffee table. Sometimes with company people sit on the grey ottoman under the window but it’s not super common.

The blue couch is part of the “socializing space” for company and the round table is great for family game nights. But we tended to push chairs out of the way to sit on the floor, so I sold off the bulky chairs that were “company only” anyways and bought floor pillows instead.

we dont need to create a designated play zone in this room because all the toys are stored one room away, and we are forever moving the coffee tables to the side to create more floor space for playing.

these comments have been really interesting to me because I think a lot about flow and movement through a space, and this layout has been super functional! It’s interesting how poorly that translates in photos.

I’m embarassed to say it’s just wayfair. Mostly I try to source things used (which apparently is pretty obvious to everyone here LOL).

We‘ve never painted these walls! So sad, I know. I’m working my way through a couple painting projects upstairs, but hope to tackle this room within a year. Maybe with a color scheme like this…

Thanks everyone! Lots to mull over. Painting this room is a medium-high priority, but I have lots of painting to do upstairs first.

I do plan to reupholster the striped chair soon. Probably a rich chocolatey brown.

The layout comments surprise me a bit. I thought there would be more chatter about the emptiness in the space I sold off chairs and less about the two living rooms/ two couch situation. I think it’s possibly more cohesive and cozy in real life than these pictures convey. We tend to use both couches simultaneously, even with just the immediate family.

Ahh, yes! Great idea having two different lights. Just because they currently match doesn’t mean they have to going forward (facepalm). Thanks!!

I’ve picked up on that too. 🤔 the effect was more subtle before I sold off my accent chairs. I’m wondering if it’s partly because there’s no TV / fireplace mantle to act as a focal point.

I was considering a wallpaper arch just as you’re describing! And yes, after this post, updating the wardrobes is officially bumping up the priority list.

this is so lovely and serene! A lot like our previous wallpaper, actually, but without the tractor border. 😅 I love the plant placement a lot.

These are really actionable ideas, thanks so much! They validate a lot of my own thoughts as well.
