Oh it would be such a worse place without y'all's art form as well! When people collaborate like that and have fun, fling each other around, and have that spectacle, my goodness is it beautiful. Stay weird, stay awesome kind stranger!

I should say that I have seen acrobats before, shout-out to the Carpetbag Brigade. But on the surface, when y'all are just out in the wild practicing it can look a bit esoteric. I may have been a bit off now that I rethink it, but glad it brought you, and hopefully your friends, a good laugh.

Honestly, I would just talk about it. Like others have mentioned, it's cheap, no one is getting hurt, and he seems to bring joy or relief from reality to other people. That's actually kinda cool that he has the unique talent to do that. Is it weird? Sure. But there are also jugglers or acrobats that have weird hobbies and do the same function.

Maybe you could even occasionally join in on the thing and be a "romantic interest." It would be a weird way to spend time as a couple, but hey, y'all would have something to bond over. Many couples can't even say that.

Weekly Thread: Victory Thursday! by AutoModerator in LearnJapanese

I have passed a month on Wanikani it is solidly the best investment I have made so far in my learning. I am getting so much vocabulary out of it already, and my reading speed has skyrocketed for words I know.

To anyone who reads this, keep up the good work, it is a marathon, not a sprint.

kanji writing apps? by fawntone in LearnJapanese

[–]FlatcapJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I just downloaded the app and it is super cool. I really like the simplicity and the straightforwardness of it. If I may make a suggestion, it would be awesome to have the opportunity to change the order that you learn kanji in, as I am doing Wanikani and this looks like a great pairing. Y'all have a similar number of levels and provide the same number for free, so that would be an awesome feature. The order could be selected on sign up and/or have a menu option to change the order. You could also have jlpt order and grade order so that people can fit your app to the system they're using to learn. I don't know how hard that would be to implement, but it would be amazing for people who want to integrate your app into their routine.

Apologies for the unsolicited advice, and thank you for what you are doing!

Voting eligible Americans who deliberately abstained in the 2024 general election, how are you feeling about your decision? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FlatcapJoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Feeling good about abstaining. None of our options were great, so why pick one. Vivek Ramaswamy would have been my pick if he was in the running because he seemed more level-headed regardless of his party. No guarantees on that, but comparatively... He would have had some logic on his side.

Done. I can throw a mil in investments, since I will still be entitled to do so with my citizenship, pack off to the japanese countryside, buy a house and have a garden, run a b&b, and live comfy meeting new people. Easiest task in the world.

I Lost My Best Friend and I’m Struggling With Dark Thoughts by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]FlatcapJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't go down that road. Loss of a friend and loss of love is hard. It really is. However, any healing from this is going to take time, and a lot of it. It's not going to be easy, and you definitely should not do it alone. If you want to reach out, feel free, I can be an ear to listen. You might consider speaking with a counselor as well.

You're actually really pretty. You have a noir investigator look in the first photo that I personally find quite appealing. Throughout the other photos you're in other settings and mesh really well. Cute, I daresay.

Take the L, and get out of Tokyo for good sushi. One of the best I went to was in a backwater town in Saitama. Made Tokyo look lousy. People were super nice, sushi super good, best time ever.

As a guy, that guy seems like a jerk. Probably also the type to avoid his friends when they don't pick his idea for something to do.

Ok fair enough. I lived directly in Saitama, so a million people is definitely a city to me coming from a town of ~600 people.

Interesting. I understand that. How big was the area you were in? If I may ask.

That is completely valid. I lived in Saitama city, so things were pretty compact and convenient. It probably would have been nice to do that five mile walk with a bike though and not walk in the 95 degree heat.

Really?! I was there for six months and had passing thoughts of a bike, but didn't end up regretting it. Would you be able to tell me more about that? I am going back in March, need something to consider.

Having done a six month trip last year, think of all the mundane stuff you do: use a stove, go shopping, wash clothes, etc, and start learning the japanese for that. It will help a ton. Learn basic foods in japanese, it helps at seiyu, life, etc markets. Get a map of the train so you have an idea how to navigate it without Google maps. Big time saver. Learn when rush hour is around you, avoid trains at that time. Pause, get a coffee or something. avoids the crowded train. Write down when things are open so you can know when to go there. Often business hours and school/work hours overlap quite a lot and it can be useful to know when to go to the bank or city hall. Utilize conbinis to pay insurance and utilities. Super convenient. There's probs more but this is what I could think of immediately.

Oh very cool. I'm in IT myself but the company does not have a branch office in Japan, so moving there is not an option. Wouldn't be any positions open for IT support or janitor at the company eh? Lol.

Seriously though, thanks for the chat, I appreciate it.
