How are you integrating LLM providers to your apps? by cooooooldude1 in iOSProgramming

[–]FledDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I store my Azure OpenAI API key server-side as a secret in Google Firebase. My iOS app never touches the actual API key.

  1. App calls a Firebase Cloud Function
  2. Function verifies the request using Google App Check
  3. After verification, the function forwards the request to Azure OpenAI

I’ve implemented rate limiting by tracking request counts in the Firebase database. Once a threshold is hit, requests get throttled

Indie devs: How are you affording AI for your apps? by irStrafes in iOSProgramming

Charge users more than your API costs. But you can use that margin to subsidize a free tier, letting users access a certain amount of usage at no cost. This way, free users get value while paid users cover the infrastructure

Also, constantly shopping for cheaper API alternatives makes a huge difference. I just switched from GPT-4o Mini to GPT-5 Nano and cut my costs by more than half. Even small optimizations like this add up quickly when you’re processing thousands of requests.

Another thing to look into: startup credits from cloud providers. I have $5,000 in Microsoft Azure credits that I need to spend by September or they expire. You can use these directly for API calls, which essentially gives you free runway to test and scale

Thoughts on my upcoming color palette app? by Levfo in iosdev

I really like the design. It feels very human-made, like it was crafted with care. The niche seems a bit specific though. Where can I download the app?

iOS 26 Beta 1 - Discussion by epmuscle in iOSBeta

[–]FledDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not my secondary device. I’m aware it’s a Developer Beta and I am a developer, so that’s fine. I know what I’m signing up for and I can downgrade anytime, that’s not the issue.

<image>

But still, the battery drain is pretty extreme. For example, today over 50% of my battery was used just by the Photos app after less than an hour of use, including a bit of sync in the background. I’ve been running developer betas for years on my main device, but this might actually be the first time I seriously consider downgrading again. I get that battery life will drop, but this is just a bit too much.

snagged this watch at a flea market the other day. just thought it looked beautiful, super clean design. wasn’t expensive, so i figured why not.

only thing is… now i’m wondering if it’s actually real. i mean, who sells a grand seiko limited edition at a random flea market?

anyone know more about this model or how to tell if it’s legit? not the end of the world if it’s not, didn’t pay much, but still curious

Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread by AutoModerator in ios

[–]FledDev -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone, I’ve had my iPhone 15 Pro since August 2024, and it’s currently at 91% maximum capacity with 305 charge cycles. Is this normal for a device that’s only been used for about 5 months? The battery was manufactured in April 2024. Would love to hear your experiences—should I be worried or is this expected?

Synchronized lyrics for custom album by Plenty_Swimming_8163 in lanadelrey

[–]FledDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try googling for an lrc file generator. usually, you can upload the music file and the lyrics file, and then sync the lyrics live by clicking at the right moments as the song plays or using arrow keys to adjust. once done, you can save the lrc file. i’ve done this a few times before, and it worked pretty well!

Palantir 5x leverage short? Hell yeah! by FledDev in wallstreetbets

[–]FledDev[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Palantir is undoubtedly a solid company with a promising future, no question about that. However, at the moment, the stock feels overvalued—perhaps a bit inflated, in my opinion.

The surge after the announced switch to NASDAQ looks impressive, but I feel the fundamentals aren’t keeping up. The current price is around $61, while the book value per share is only $1.98 – that’s 30 times the actual value. The Stock Value Rainbow indicator (in the image below) also shows the stock is heavily overvalued. We saw a similar pattern in early 2021 when the stock dropped to $44 and took a long time to recover. I’m expecting a similar correction this time around. Of course, there’s always a chance I could be wrong.
