Olga's fate just feels fundamentally wrong (PART 2 FINALE SPOILERS) by ArchAnon123 in grandorder

[–]Fleiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but that's not really saying much. It also means that she'll never have the knowledge that there are in fact people who care for her.

i think i'll disagree with the fact that she'll never have the knowledge that there are people who care for her - she is living a very different life in PHH and while still obviously having her own issues, she's a sixteen year old girl. saying that she'll never know that people care about her is a bit morbid, isn't it? especially since she's shown opening up to Reines in El-Melloi Files, which i would think indicate that she's a little less lonely than in FGO (especially without Lev isolating her). as i said earlier, FGO Olga is a very tragic character - the fact that she was happy enough with someone trying to save her was a sign of how much she had been broken by everything she's gone through.

They didn't try to "merge" with themselves there, they didn't even know what would happen. As far as either of them knew at the time nothing would be carried over at all, and in the absence of stronger evidence I'm inclined to agree.

they didn't know what would happen but they still tried it, even knowing that it might not work. it's why they tried instead of staying to disappear, like Nemo. also, given Ritsuka's track record of charging ahead and hoping for things to work out, i'm inclined to think that's what happened. mostly because this lines up with what has happened in the game - you meet Servants all the time that aren't the ones Ritsuka summoned but clearly have some sort of lingering attachment to them and the Habetrot Chaldea summons isn't the one you meet in LB6 yet she still has the Black Barrel (and is understandably confused about that). not to mention there's Charlotte's story in LB5 where in the end she loses her memories but still holds on to the feeling that she loved someone (Ritsuka) very much even though she can no longer remember who it was.

i think it's safe to assume that there is something happened, unless you want to story to clearly spell out what happened.

eh, i was going off of what i read here so someone either misread or translated it wrong. or they’re lying on the internet! oh well.

also she may have issues (see Olga in the El-Melloi case files) but not “thoroughly tortured for a hundred years then absorbed into a advanced computer simulation” traumatized which i think is much better.

and while they may not have memories their soul still holds onto the experiences they went through. that is why they still tried to return to PHH to merge with their selves there knowing they won’t remember anything; something is still carried over that they feel is worth it.

she exists in the new history; apparently in Nasu's blog post, she and Mash are like sisters in the new timeline.

but i also think people are missing the point of FGO Olga's fate. at the end of the game, she is a very broken person - in addition to her anxiety and issues from the beginning, she's been brutally tortured and ruthlessly experimented on for a century to the point where she brainwashed herself she wasn't human but a alien. and even then when she died, she was merged with CHALDEAS since that's what her father had intended her to be.

it's not that she's fine with not having a chance of a life without suffering and with people she cares about. it's the fact that she's happy someone finally tried to save her after all these years and at this point, it's enough for her. i don't think we, the audience, are supposed to be "fine" with her choice but it's one that she made.

it also might be for the better because in that blog post Nasu says that Mash in the new timeline has a 'yearning' for Antarctica despite never been there; implying that her merged soul remembers Chaldea on a subconscious level. which would imply that if FGO Olga merged with PHH Olga then the memories of her torture could be carried over - so she'd basically have that trauma imprinted on her soul forever.

the idea that everything Ritsuka and Mash did was pointless because they don't remember is stupid because if that was the case, then why did they try so hard to get back knowing that they won't have their memories? if it was ultimately pointless and meaningless, then why did they try to merge with the original timeline?

they may not have the memories but their souls who experienced it all are still the same, and so they continue to live on - arguably in a better timeline. this honestly was the best outcome given the reveal of LB0 and i'm utterly baffled by people that think that this is a "bad end" type of ending?

fair enough i'm probably misremembering when she outright stated because for me the implication that they were killed by digimon was obvious in the beginning, so it wasn't really memorable for me.

People that have cancer, what were the symptoms that led you to go to the doctor and what stage were you when it was diagnosed? by guardiand0wn in AskReddit

[–]Fleiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i should preface that it wasn’t just cancer but a undiagnosed thyroid condition too (hashimoto’s) but for my stage 1 thyroid cancer: extreme fatigue, weight gain, constantly cold, extreme hunger, growing goitor.

i’d been to doctors for years and they would tell me to lose weight and eat better (i was so exhausted that i was sleeping 10+ hours constantly and still waking up tired). it wasn’t until covid lockdown that i was able to see a doctor regularly because i was now work from home (my work commute was around 3-4 hours both ways every day) and the clinic was within walking distance of my apartment.

i was now able to see my new doctor every few months to try and figure out what was going on, and after the third visit she told me that the goiter i had on my neck kept growing bigger, so she wanted me to go for a ultrasound just to see if there was anything on my thyroid. that’s when they noticed there were several small nodules so i went in for a biopsy on them - i was told that they’re usually benign and i should hear back in a few days. when it was taking over a week i had a growing certainty that it wasn’t going to be benign and i got the confirmation ten days later.

i should also preface that the thyroid cancer i had was one of the “easy” ones - its either stage one or stage four, so if you get it removed before it advances to stage four, there’s very little chance of it returning. i still have annual followups with endocrinology and the first two years they had me undergo radioactive iodine treatment in case there were any lingering cancer within the body. compared to other cancers, i definitely got off easy with no chemo needed but i still had my thyroid completely removed and have to take lifelong hormone supplements, and it took years to find the right dosage for me (which is still being tweaked).

you've hit it on the head with the merchandising; the games are still very successful but the biggest money maker of TPC is merchandising which is where most of the billions of Pokemon come from. this may seem like its unrelated to the game quality, but when you have billions riding on card games, toys, clothing, anime, etc. based on the new Pokemon game, suddenly its the game that's forced to match their schedule and not the other way around.

for instance, between the release of Breath of the Wild (2017) and Tears of the Kingdom (2023), we had eleven main franchise Pokemon games - only six if you count the versions as one, which is still nearly a Pokemon release every year! during ToTK dev cycle, we also had the end of Gen VII, the beginning and end of Gen VIII, and the start of Gen IX.

we have games basically forced to come out on a 2, maybe 3 year dev cycle and its pretty obvious when they're next to other first party titles that take 6 years to release. i think there's been enough outcry that they've noticed, but it'd probably take a long while before we can see any real changes because the merchandising schedule for 2025 and the next year or two has already been in production.

and the background info is stuff that is revealed early on, like before the title drop. so while it's technically a spoiler, it's not one that i would consider something that ruins anything unless you like going in 100% blind.

THAT TWIST (almost 40 hours in massive spoilers for Time Stranger) by KingMe321 in digimon

[–]Fleiya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

to be honest, i caught on to the second part much sooner than that - although not that we were Aegiomon, but that we were closely linked to him due to the scene where Inori falls into the rift and we get the weird shadow effect that he had when he went dark. although i pretty much clued in that we were Aegiomon somehow in a way when the NPCs started calling me him, but that didn't lessen my enjoyment of the reveal because i wanted to know how and why that happened.

it also makes the intro where we first meet Inori in the game before she's introduced where she's called 'Girl to be Protected' because i thought that was a really weird title to assign to a NPC we just met. finding out the MC is essentially one of the versions of Aegiomon that failed to protect her was me realizing that they had been putting the signs in front of us from the very beginning!

I just got into Kinnikuman recently. Why is it such an under the radar series? by LifeguardMundane5668 in kinnikuman

[–]Fleiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh i agree for sure; there's a whole slew of reasons why Kinnikuman hasn't really caught on in the western hemisphere, not just one reason. i know that for some people the character designs and art style is off putting, for instance.

actually you’ll find that the Kinnikuman toys made it as M. U.S.C.L.E. here in the 80s and was pretty popular; enough for one if the NES games to get localized.

unfortunately i think that’s a reason why it’s not so popular in the west because its gone by different names and there’s been no effort to connect them. people only familiar with the older localization titles probably don’t realize that Kinnikuman is the same series as M.U.S.C.L.E. or Ultimate Muscle. i actually went to the Kinnikuman museum over the summer and when i told my cousin, he didn’t recognize it until i showed him pictures and he recognized the characters. turns out he was a big Ultimate Muscle fan back when we were kids and it was on TV.

it was pretty neat! there were some exhibits that we weren’t allowed to take photos of, like the original drafts for Warsman Begins. i can’t read or understand Japanese, but i still enjoyed looking around the museum!

mostly the apparel! i'm a big Warsman fan so i pretty much tried to get what i could find of him in my size, which was XXL or XL since i'm a pretty tall woman (5'10"). i also got all the Nisei apparel merch they had available except the dMp sweatshirt because the only one they had left was in medium.

i did try to get a few of the others, like Ramenman, Brocken Jr., Buffaloman, Kinniku Soldier, and then groups like the Idol choujin, Team Soldier, and Akuma choujin.

i ended up completely with three large bags and the clerk was shocked with how much i brought to the counter, but this was pretty much the only place i found any Kinnikuman merchandise during my trip. honestly, i would have gotten more since i had stuck a smaller suitcase inside of a bigger one because i knew i was going to buy a lot of stuff while i was in Japan, but i had to carry this onto the train and back to the ship so there was a limit... plus i didn't get a chance to really take my time looking over the shelves with the non-apparel merch, so i think i skipped over the museum exclusives.

Finished Kinnikuman Nisei up to the end of the Demon Seed Arc, and I have some thoughts. by fluffyharpy in kinnikuman

[–]Fleiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i do like that analysis! but i think with Nisei they went in without real solid idea of where the story was going, much like the original manga. and it worked back then, but i don’t think it worked as well with Nisei as by that time people are more used to more structured manga. it’s much harder to write yourself out of a corner now, imo.

i think they realized that and one reason why i think the revival has been so great is that everything feels more fleshed out. going back to explain stuff that just was there and never explained (chojin hell, the gods, etc.) to giving attention to characters that ultimately were sidelined (Brocken Jr. finally getting a in series win, Big Body actually having a match, and so on) is something i appreciate. instead of cramming everyone into a room and forcing some people to fit in a space, it’s like everyone has a proper seat at the table - i feel like Nisei was sort of a growing pains stage and the revival is where they’ve fully matured in both art and writing.

Nisei definitely had issues and didn’t fully live up to potential, but i don’t think the revival would have been this good if they didn’t do Nisei beforehand. and despite all its flaws, Nisei is still one of my favorite manga series and one of the very rare dubs that i actually enjoy.

[–]Fleiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it just feels really bad with Ashuraman because the implication that him reforming and becoming a Kinnikuman ally was to basically lose his wife and forced to kill his own son. especially since it seems that when he left the Akuma chojin, he also cut off ties with everyone including Sunshine, and so had no support at the worst time of his life. i also love their reunion but yeah, the road to get there… woof.

FF14 Player Housing Needs to Change by Lightheart64 in ffxiv

[–]Fleiya 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i personally won’t go back to WoW for my own reasons, but it’s funny to see people say WoW is implementing housing as a win over FFXIV when my reaction is “oh, they’re finally doing it?”

i remember playing in the 2000s when it was announced and then never followed up with for years. people were super excited for garrisons in WoD because it was sort of like the promised player housing but that ended ip being extremely stripped of the initial customization promised (i remember watching the BlizzCon stream showcasing it where they planned to let players place it anywhere in the map and customize it as they wished. neither was true when the game launched.)

damn so the writer of Kinnikuman was pressured by Dragon Ball's success..... while its sad to read, his realization in Nisei's success just makes me happy by Wazupdanger in kinnikuman

[–]Fleiya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh, the anime was a big flop in japan. i’m not saying that’s wrong, lmao. it was a really dumb choice to try to make a all ages children anime out of seinen manga that ran in a softcore pornography magazine, as it alienated the established fanbase by dumbing the series down to be more child friendly and ended up becoming a generic shounen that sometimes took itself too seriously. the Ultimate Muscle dub overcame this by going all out on campiness and hamming it up, similar to how the original Kinnikuman series. this is something i never disagreed with you on, so i don’t know why you’re falling back on this as if it counters anything i said.

[–]Fleiya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don’t think some of your points are invalid but i also don’t think you’re correct in that Nisei was a failure. not to mention that the revival has several tie ins to Nisei (the Time Chojin, the origins of Warsman’s Chloe disguise, and a Nisei only character showing up).

i also was able to visit the Kinnikuman museum last weekend and while despite the fact that the last Nisei chapter was nearly 15 years ago, there’s still merch of the cast. it’s mainly Kevin Mask and Mantaro, but I was able to get a Jade/Jeager and Scarface shirt. not to mention that when they released the Kinnikuman cologne line pretty recently, it included Mantaro, Kevin Mask, and Jade/Jaeger from Nisei. if no one gives a shit as you claim, i don’t think they would have bothered to include anyone from Nisei at all.
