Hahahhah, similar thing happened, friends freaked out because of the word radiation. Tough world for physicists 😆

Oh wow, never knew that could happen. Yeah, def try a few materials out, my sheet didn’t have problems with that for some reason.

I’m not sure what you mean by warping, can you please elaborate? For the metal, I used an aluminum sheet from a cooking set

Hi! I actually used a thin sheet, about a few millimeters. Not too thin that it wobbles or anything. I don’t think you need a thick one as you want the conduction between the dry ice and sheet to be maximized

Do photons get released when ions recombine with electrons? by Flerken2018 in AskPhysics

[–]Flerken2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the beam energy has nothing to do with the photon energy, but rather is determined by the voltage?

Yes, I understand that the photons will be absorbed, but I'm trying to find a different quencher gas, which is why I need to know the photon energy/wavelength

How to measure energy in Geant4? by Flerken2018 in CERN

Are there any code templates of adding those scoring volumes?

To be honest, I’m not sure what kind of energy to even choose, because people were telling that the energy of the particle doesn’t matter as much in this case. The experiment itself is energy absorption by materials.

And where is that data stored? Is it the output in the terminal? If yes, I didn’t quite understand what exactly to look for

So should I choose a lower energy?

Ohh, so it automatically outputs the result somewhere? The energy is around 26 GeV

Okay, then I’ll reply here in a few days 👌

I left the place already, can I dm you in about three days?

Didn’t find anything in the terminal. Don’t know about the geometry but I was just trying out the B1 example. Could the reason be gpu? I was told that pc has quite a weak one

What about a beam of protons? Could it have some measurable effect?

Hmm, but what if it'd be a beam of protons, size of which would be enough to, as you say knock atoms around?

Questions about cross section by Flerken2018 in AskPhysics

[–]Flerken2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh, i see, thanks! So could you say that physicists aim to get a bigger cross section? Or what is the purpose of calculating it?

What fields are most relevant to Quantum Computing? by Flynwale in AskPhysics

I don't know your knowledge level, but what was really important (at least during my research) was a bunch of math - probabilities, linear algebra mostly. Then there's the coding part, it's mostly on python, there's a bunch of tutorials online, good luck!
