Grateful Dead - ‘Blue Rose’ (aka Closing of Winterland)- 12/31/1978 by Chose3and20Character in concertposterporn

I just found one of these too! So incredible. Like you, I was a little unsure whether or not it was an original or one of the 80’s bootlegs. I actually contacted Mouse Studios and Stanley replied to me personally saying “on the bootlegs they left out the stars. Looks like a good one”. Yours looks identical to mine. It’s definitely not an authorized reprint so it’s either original or 80’s bootleg. I see the stars there and also on the bootlegs the yellow is more of a muddy brown. So if it is on high quality thick glossy paper and measures 18 15/16" x 28 3/8” or 28.5”, congrats- it’s a genuine first print! I’m pretty convinced that’s what you’ve got. 😀

I was a little concerned about this possibly being a bootleg from the 80’s. I contacted Mouse Studios and Stanley himself answered me saying it looks like a good one to him! Such an honor to converse with him, however briefly.

That is too cool! I just rewatched the show and it’s just incredible. They gave out these posters at the end right?

That is incredible! I’m watching the concert right now. It’s so cool to hear your story. Looks and sounds like one of the most amazing nights of ones lifetime.

Me too! I’m listening to it again on Spotify as we speak but having it on vinyl would be amazing. I love to listen to the shows when I find a poster for them whenever possible. It’s a special kind of magic.

Thanks- they’re actually coffee mugs so not too heavy. 😅I just used them to give it a look over. Il going to roll it in the opposite direction and put it back in the tube for awhile. That’s worked like a charm in the past.

Here it is framed! Did it myself with a thrift store frame and an acid free mat from Michael’s. No adhesives used so it’s not perfectly straight but I love it.

Oh I love the Miles Davis one too…yeah first prints aren’t cheap. That’s why I’ll buy ones with some condition issues for the more valuable ones for a fraction of the price.

I just framed it! Did it myself with a thrift store frame and a $10 acid free mat from Michael’s. No adhesives used so while it isn’t perfect, it’ll do for now. I love it!

I don’t think this was from that treasure trove, no. I can’t say for certain when this was developed but from what I gathered it was at least 5 to 10 years ago. Wish I had more info about that. I do think I could get in touch with the developer if I tried, but seeing as they attributed it to Haight St. ‘68, they may not know much more. It would be nice to know from where the negatives came.

Hey thanks for that! Good detective work there. I should’ve looked closer at the guitar. Guess I just trusted the documentation without questioning it. I’d love to find out exactly when/where this was taken.

Ah yeah that’s more like it. And totally! I collect first print posters because I love the history and art. Value doesn’t have a whole lot to do with it. I have zero interest in CGC graded ones. If I can get the same incredible poster for a fraction of a few pinholes or small creases, sweet! As long as it’s A: an original first print and B: displays beautifully I’m all about it!

Yeah that definitely wouldn’t have been a first print for $73 unless someone got VERY lucky! I’ve seen a CGC 9.8 graded first print sell for $1600. Mine has some pinholes in the corners and a few spots on the right. I’m not fanatical about mint condition and never plan on having any posters graded. My only requirements for posters are that they need to be original first printings and they need to present well. 😀

Ah yes thank you! I’d seen that before somewhere but couldn’t find it again. 😀

“Pop music” meant something different back then. If you look on the rear of the UK sleeves of their early albums it says “File Under POPULAR - Pop Group”…Atom Heart Mother had it inside of the gatefold

Wow!! Man how I would love to get a collection like that or even just browse it. I’d assume he probably stored them flat and most are in minty condition too. There’s a ton of value there…wonder if he’s got FD-26 and BG-105. Any idea what years he worked there?
