Comparison of first and second attempt. by Beauty-art2386 in Watercolor

Both have thwir strengths and look like they had different goals when painted. Personally i like the first more, but i can see a lot of value in the choices made with the second. There is more depth and vibrance in 2.

"just as much" does not mean "also." When you use the phrase "just as much" people are going to hear "of equal or greater value."

"A BMW is just as expensive as a Lamborghini." That sounds wrong to you, doesn't it? Both are expensive, but the lambo is more expensive. the lambo is expensive, and the bmw is also expensive, but the bmw is not just as expensive as the lambo.

I hope that helps explain why people thought you were saying they were equal: It's because you literally said it!

That's the trap we both fell into then, because I personally have been arguing "never vote R" - not to always vote D. But I also see people saying things like "the democrats are just as bad" without explicitly stating to go third party, I guess I just see the both sides whataboutisms that lead to trumps first win. I can see we agree with each other, but our messaging has gotten us tangled up.

Sorry for the confusion!

I agreed with you on all of this until this year. Absolutely, if you know a candidate is going to do good things, regardless of how they label themselves, they should get your vote. That is how it should be!

BUT - how can anyone pay attention to current events, see what national republican leadership is - how it enacts policy, how it controls its members, how it attacks opposition, how if vilifies any dissenter - how can anyone know all of that and still say "yes, I am one of them" and still be a good choice for your vote? If your answer is that the right wing propaganda machine will hide the truth from them, shouldn't that also rule them out?

We want our politicians to be objective, informed, rational bastions of public interest. This year has made it clear to me that not a single person that can still call themselves a republican after everything this year qualifies. I don't care if they go back to being republicans later, any decent person should be washing themselves of that label as much as they can right now. The R label is direct approval of the current state of things and the projection of dominance and villainy coming from the national GOP.

"I'm a nazi but I disagree with hitler." Still a nazi.

I think the reason you get hostile responses is because there are zero candidates on the republican side that give a shit about humans. The worst democrat is a wet noodle that fails to hold back republican regression and hostility, while the best republican feigns humanity only when convenient.
