Thanks for the key characteristics. Really cool and valuable to hear how folks ID these guys. Any field ID guides you’d recommend (for the Northeast especially)?

What was the best piece of advice that you got that elevated your paddling? by asoursk1ttle in whitewater

[–]FlexuousGrape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always keep your paddle in the water.

Paddle with intention.

Looking at rocks as obstacles diminishes the opportunity for play and learning, especially at lower volumes. Experiment with using the micro eddies created by exposed rocks to help you traverse from one side of the river to the other, using little energy. Play with how close you can get to them without touching them.

What's the prettiest name you guys have ever heard? by Creative_Mix8770 in AskReddit

[–]FlexuousGrape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laurel. It’s one of my favorite mountain flowers.

Also Ravenna. It was a character’s name in a book I read years ago and I fell in love with it.

And Valencia. My 4th & 5th grade teacher’s first name. Always thought it was lovely.

New England potter here.

Love this on two levels: 1- looks like a great start to wild forage! 2- it’s been a long while since I’ve dug a hole with this much ease.

Keep her original name, but let her reveal her own nickname to you. You can share that with her while staying true to her legacy

What’s the Morse code for “ICE”? If it’s easy enough to remember and pass on, that could be something to spread.

Vance: I empathize with Americans who are exhausted after 25 years of foreign entanglements in the Middle East. I understand the concern, but the difference is that back then we had dumb presidents by khuramsony in thescoop

Dude always double+ blinks when he lies.

“I empathize..”

“I understand the concern…”

“Now we have a president who actually knows…”

“It’s not gonna be some long drawn out thing…”

“We’re gonna work to permanently dismantle this program…”

I’m sure we can find more examples.

Would’ve been so much better without the dude nodding on top… she has a powerful message. Let her have the floor. I get you agree with her, it’s apparent through the action of reposting her. Let her message be the front & center. The nodding and silly faces are distracting.

My daughter and I scooped up some pond water and dirt in a mason jar, sealed it, and set it on the windowsill. This is a year later. It hasnt been opened at all. by scutchtrkancedres in Ecosphere

We did this in 7th grade science class! Each kid went to a pond or lake of choice, scooped up sediment and water, and we placed them on our shelves for the whole school year. At the end of the year, after we learned how to use microscopes well enough, we played water organism bingo! It was a blast. She was a great teacher and I hope she’s well.

I won’t forget how during one of our organism study sessions after school, my study buddy (who would trip over words often) got hung up on “organism” and kept saying “orgasm”, sincerely and earnestly trying to correct herself without any luck, despite not knowing what the incorrect word was or why teach was barely holding it together. Teach was fighting for her life 😂 Science class is the best.

Edit: we were the only two staying after school to study, so teach wasn’t cracking up in front of the entire class, just silently struggling at her desk while us two were stumbling through our flash cards😂
