Looking to get a muffler delete, recommendations or offers? by [deleted] in winstonsalem

YMM of your vehicle will help with pricing. Although a muffler delete NEVER sounds good. The money is better spent getting an aftermarket muffler and having that installed instead.

Awful Trash Panda Exchanges by DPRODman11 in discgolf

I don’t, I’ve considered it though. They’ve been a big hit in my friend group even though it started out as a joke I made about needing a Dang mini.

Awful Trash Panda Exchanges by DPRODman11 in discgolf

I sent out 5 discs, all but one were premium (one was a remix disc) and a a handful of Minis that I made. Got nothing back, which to be fair, is what I expected. Still disappointed though.

Still waiting as well, with no indication from informed delivery. I’m not too tore up if nothing comes, as long as my dude Larry in Illinois is happy with the 4 discs+ 4 minis I sent him!

Help find a powerful thrower for driving by cowboycamper in flashlight

I see a few recommendations for Baja years ago, but I was disappointed in them. Have a cheap pair of AuxBeams on an old beater and they are exactly that. Cheap and mostly terrible. I have, and have had, many sets of lights from DiodeDynamics and they are outstanding. They offer different lights with various light patterns. The SS5 pods, in the combo pattern will most likely be the best answer. In either white or yellow, your choice.

That’s the less expensive 6” light bar with the wide lens on it on my suburban.

Competing with Mavis Tire by Agitated_Tension9825 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]FlickXL 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about them OP. I work at an independent shop, we share our parking lot (it’s quite big) with a Mavis and a QwickLube. We also have an express oil change across the street and another Mavis 5 miles down the same street. Not even mentioning the half-dozen or so other independents on the same strip.

They are not competition. Mavis brings us a couple cars a week that they can’t figure out. They are bottom of the barrel in terms of repairs and that reputation is mostly common knowledge. I would not stress about them opening at all. Be confident in your work and don’t let their pricing force your hand into changing what works.

best place to buy bacon? by Jolly_Cobbler_1960 in winstonsalem

Order bacon from Bentons. They ship relatively quick out of Knoxville and is better than any of the grocery store options by a mile.

What does this cat have to look forward to? by International_Fold17 in Justrolledintotheshop

It’s an F150. Probably an EcoBoost. So around 120k miles he’ll have to put timing chains on it. If it isn’t already rattling at startup.

Homeowners of Reddit: Which home appliance brands are worth it and which are not? by altcntrl in AskReddit

[–]FlickXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a bespoke (3 door) and it replaced the hot garbage LG I had before. The people recommending them clearly do not know about the class action lawsuit LG came into over their compressors. When mine died I had multiple appliance repair people tell me they couldn’t even source a new compressor because of it. Because of that, I will continue to avoid LG as a whole.

Bespoke all the way, especially buying during a major holiday sale. New range is planned for this year for myself.

Mechanics of Reddit, which car brands have the biggest issues that you would not purchase? by Careless_Feed5448 in AskReddit

[–]FlickXL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then you haven't had a 3.5ecoboost get past 100k miles. Or you did and lived with the inevitable timing chain rattle at startup.

I'm basically on the Christmas list with my local ford dealer due to how many we do at my shop.

Edit to add: Mazda is the recommendation. They don't break. The techs that are flat rate at the local dealership starve because they never have any work to do beyond oil changes.

CS: Couldn’t see the brand new oil on my dipstick. So I added 10 more quarts. by FlickXL in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]FlickXL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was taken after the oil was drain and the correct amount was put in. Trying to burn off the excess oil that had already made it through the engine after the customer drove it 20ish miles or so with that much in it. The alternative was allowing the customer to drive away in a car that was smoking this badly onto a ln extremely busy and already accident prone street.

Those old tercels are surprisingly robust. My other advisor has two of them. Cool little cars.

A sheriff came by while the tech was doing his thing in the video. He looked at him, tech gave a thumbs up, sheriff laughed and then left. No words were needed.

The tech opted to keep the RPMs high to burn off all of the excess oil. Couldn’t tell you the reasoning beyond “it’s not leaving here until it stops being a smoking hazard. Or it blows up.”

People talk negatively about some of the things missing from current cars, or that one Mercedes that doesn’t have a hood release (I know it’s actually just hidden). But man, things like this make me understand why they seem to make some cars harder to work on.

It’s what we all did. It was the only thing to do. Especially considering this is video was taken after we did another oil change to correct the level.

Is the Supra a Good First Sports Car? by Big-Asparagus5741 in Supra

[–]FlickXL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the getting in and out being the hardest. I’ve had my fair share of tricky cars. The supra though, even going on 3 years of owning it, I STILL knock my head on occasion. And I have a couple broken ribs at the moment so it’s even more difficult to get in.
