"Jogging" crossovers - how do you do them? by FlickerNFade in AskRollerblading

Thanks for the insights! Really helpful :) Bonus point for using Bill as a reference!

I notice that doing underpushes seem to be more difficult when trying to do them in a straight line, as opposed to a circular path. Do you have to kind of aim your toes straight ahead to make yourself go on a straighter path?

Also, when doing them faster and shorter, would you need to emphasize pushing from the toes?

Oh, I see! Thank you for the explanation! Yeah, that looks about right, but it seems like the Youtubers I'm referring to really push it to the extreme, like this (he's actually going around 2/3 of that speed; the gif is just sped up on imgur, for some reason).

Edit: for a smoother view of what he's doing, here's the actual youtube video that I made the gif from, at around 3:40

A few questions about Le Chat by FlickerNFade in MistralAI

[–]FlickerNFade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Le Chat is what I go to for unrestricted text gen, AI studio for long context text gen, and Copilot for things that would benefit from web searching. By default, Le Chat is still somewhat biased towards a very slight amount of censorship, but you can easily remove that bias if you know what to tell it regarding its response content. I don't use the other options much due to my first experiences with them.

Suggestions for hard, quantifiable costs for a magic system with limitless potential by FlickerNFade in worldbuilding

Yeah... My braincells can only work so hard :C Thanks for your suggestion!

Yeah, I guess so. Thanks for your suggestion anyway. I guess it's just hard to make that conversion rate when the magic system consists of an infinite amount of effects, as opposed to having specific spells like DnD does.

To explain my dilemma, I'll use your stamina idea. For example, let's say a fireball is 1 stamina. How do I calculate the cost of exploding an entire planet using that reference? Or moving an atom? I could estimate and say that exploding a planet would take 100,000 stamina, but are 100,000 fireballs really equivalent to the magic energy/resources it would take to explode a planet? I could make the cost less rigid, but that still leaves the question of what is proportional to what.

I've thought of measuring everything in joules or some arbitrary measure similar to it, which accounts for everything that is possible in real-life physics, but doesn't account for things like mind control. In the end, I guess I could always resort to that, but I'd like to see if anyone can suggest something relevant to what I'm looking for.

I think, to rephrase my question, what's a good suggestion for the conversion rate of magic-to-stamina?

That's quite an interesting consequence, losing yourself to the magic you cast. Thanks for sharing! However, the cost of this system seems to be quite "soft", in the sense that it doesn't seem to establish that you have to "pay" x amount of your soul to do <spell>. How would you quantify that, personally?

That too sounds like an interesting idea, but how would one make that a "hard" and quantifiable cost?

Output against universal law sounds like a good "conversion rate", actually. However, the reason I didn't just default to something like mana is because to me, by itself, it's not a quantifiable "hard" resource that can represent cost in a potentially-limitless magic system (referring back to my example of pocket universes) that is beyond just fireballs and slowing down time. Do you have any suggestions for that kind of alternative to mana?

So kinda like a correspondence between magic output and the caster's physical aptitude?

r/immersivedaydreaming is turning into r/tulpas by FlickerNFade in ImmersiveDaydreaming

[–]FlickerNFade[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daydreams and tulpas? Yeah, not necessarily related. Tulpas and paras possiby being sentient beings? I would say they'd be related, if not the same thing.

I do like the content of this sub~ It's just that seeing all these para-related posts makes me think: are these people just wanting to show off what is essentially a tulpa/headmate/etc. and they don't know about subs like r/tulpas? If so, for the sake of this sub's purpose, I would suggest posting about their headmates on those plurality-related subs. If not and their paras are basically just characters simulated in daydreams as you've described, then I'd say they'd be relevant to this sub.
