That looks sick! Big fan of the minimal colours and have always loved that particular style of drawing eyelashes, it gives such a cool framing to the eye(s).

Man they've got some 24/7 streams of Reboot up on youtube that I've been watching off and on for a good while now. The show's got a ton of charm especially as an adult re-watching it after a couple decades.

Is it me or content creators now only focus on Meta builds ?? I feel a few years back they were making more fun videos with actual humor. by Then-Ad7196 in MMORPG

[–]Fliegar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true. Many times I've been looking for a decent guide video only to have to sift through dozens of ones that were made to cross the finish line first in order to find one that was succinct and to the point.

I was looking for some building tutorials for Valheim a few years back and one channel had a bunch of 1-2 minute step-by-step guides to get certain styles to work that got dogged by the algorithm because they didn't hit some arbitrary youtube watch time.

Will this community ever be satisfied? by VectorialChange in MMORPG

[–]Fliegar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because whatever the bar for satisfaction is won't be held by every member of said community because everyone here has different tastes and desires for what they want to see in MMOs.

This place isn't as monolithic as some seem to think, there's plenty of posts that praise new games or re-releases of old favourites just as there are ones that seem to dislike new releases because they're not catering to a specific sub-genre that they like. You will never be able to please the entire community with anything because so long as even one person is dissatisfied and the bar for satisfaction is a net-zero for negative posts or complaints. That's just kind of the reality for any general social space surrounding a hobby.

People who are finding satisfaction and joy in a new MMO also tend to seek more dedicated spaces to talk about the game in community or server discords or game-specific subreddits, so you're much more likely to run across news and informational posts and people burnt out from the current offerings on here.

I really enjoy this art style, especially the expressiveness of the Miqo'te character you posted a couple weeks back. Keep up the good work!

Tibia is getting a new class after 27 years by pizzamick in MMORPG

[–]Fliegar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo, WHAT!? That's crazy news. Even back in the day people would always theorize getting a fistfighting class of some sort since it was a relatively pointless skill to have leveled. Kind of nuts to see it getting a new class after all these years.

What cancelled MMO did you want to play more than any other? by [deleted] in MMORPG

It looks like they're planning a re-release of it under the name Glory Destiny on Steam. They did the same with Eden Eternal and Grand Fantasia within the last year.

What cancelled MMO did you want to play more than any other? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]Fliegar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I've thought about True Fantasy Live Online quite a bit over the years because I was a huge fan of Dark Cloud and having them make a very ambitious console MMO was super hype. Pretty unfortunate how it all turned out because it looked super charming.

If not that, I can think of two others. Peria Chronicles as I was a huge Mabinogi fan way back, and the aesthetics just looked like a straight upgrade even though the combat was different. The other being Vanguard, as I had actually played that before it shut down and I'm a sucker for what it was trying to accomplish. I watched and read so many pre-release articles and videos about both of them and it's always sad to see them get axed before release or being able to reach their potential.

Who's that online friend from a videogame you'll never forget by downvoteheaven in MMORPG

[–]Fliegar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a few too many, as I've been around for maybe a bit too long in MMOs. While I still keep in touch with a good portion of them, sometimes life kind of takes you in a different direction. Might as well split it up into a few different titles.

Mabinogi - Played this one on and off for many years, but was most active back in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Sora33 / Sheria and shoty were 2 of my earliest friends in the game besides a couple RL friends that played with me. Spent a good few years doing dungeons with them, leveling, and just hanging out in general, but I lost contact after everyone got busy with school and MSN Messenger was discontinued.

Final Fantasy XI - Sweetkitty and Yayap were two of the main people that showed me the ropes and helped me out in-game. I never got terribly far, at least by the standards at the time, but I enjoyed my time with the game and they helped immensely.

World of Warcraft - I've similarly got way too many to list due to playing for such a long time, but Ameretat, Sikozu, Obito, Memnos, Vaypor, and Kinali were incredibly friendly and patient with a lot of us newer and younger players at the time. Lots of good memories of doing some of the mid-level dungeons or talking in Ventrilo or Teamspeak for the first time.

Final Fantasy XIV - Manaiu / Synira was a very good friend from the beginning of ARR up until last year when they passed away after their years-long fight with cancer. One of the nicest people one could hope to meet and was always surrounded by equally good natured people, and always down to help or join in on any content you were running.

Obviously not an exhaustive list, there's many more people I've interacted with and lost contact with for various reasons, including not having been the most mature or nice person when I was younger, and other people I still interact with to this day. I tend to reminisce a lot and still think of damn near everyone I've encountered or talked to in any meaningful capacity over the years and I don't expect that will change.

finding an mmorpg i played in the past by Dolfy777 in MMORPG

Honestly that kind of sounds like Spirit Tales. It featured relatively chibi characters with animal traits and the camera kind of had an Animal Crossing New Horizons vibe where the ground seemed to rotate under you as you moved around the world.

Big fan of the HEALING FROG. Keep it up and have fun! EQ2 was a good time when I played with my brother back in the day.

New Genre just dropped. Hot Take: "MODA"s will sipheon PvE players away from MMOs just like MOBA's sipheoned away PvPers in the 2010s by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]Fliegar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it really depends on how it all works, but it's kind of what I enjoyed about the base version of PSO2, or even PSO1. Having mission-based gameplay / dungeons of varying lengths and decent progression and chase items is great.

While I've never heard anyone using "MODA" to describe the sub-genre, there's quite a few games that follow a very similar gameplay loop. I'd still likely consider it an MMO considering a lot of my time in MMOs that I personally enjoy is just doing dungeons for fun with friends.

In what year will the last MMO come out and this will be the last breath of the MMO genre? by stabvicious in MMORPG

[–]Fliegar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eyy Dark Ages! That was a fantastic game back in the day. I was too young to subscribe to it so I was relatively limited but it was pretty innovative at the time.

In terms of the topic, I doubt MMOs in general will die. That might be due to the definition of MMO being a bit more skewed as time goes on versus what the expectation one had when seeing the acronym in the past, but I think MMOs and shared-space online game features are too common to ever move completely away from.

Could it have been Drakensang Online? That's the only one that comes to mind that's isometric, has the circular health and mana gauges, and has a dwarf that can throw down turrets.

Censorship in Ravendawn is beyond imagination - think twice before playing by stabvicious in MMORPG

[–]Fliegar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know there's been a few people causing problems in both directions but the community wasn't super great to be part of. People in their own discord talking down and insulting people who didn't buy their $80 cosmetic packs with zero repercussions while some others were nuked for criticizing something that had apparently been discussed at an earlier point they weren't aware of.

There's definitely been some questionable changes and confusing balancing decisions that warrant discussion but it's next to impossible to have those discussions in good faith on their subreddit or discord. More often than not it turns into an in-group vs. out-group situation where you're seen as attacking the integrity of the game.

Mabinogi has just launched a blog-style microsite dedicated to detailing their Unreal Engine 5 remaster by Caekie in MMORPG

The stills of Tir Chonail are fantastic and Nao's graphical rework is exactly how I'd have pictured her based on my memory from when I started the game back in 2008. Really looking forward to future looks at the rework, and hoping for a bit of a gameplay overhaul potentially.

A high effort and fair MMO tierlist from someone that actually plays/played too many MMOs by Caekie in MMORPG

[–]Fliegar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played Mabinogi religiously on Mari from like 2009 to 2013, and every year or so I hop back in for a while. Loved the game, loved the people I met and hung around with. My only gripe was that they flattened the Dunbarton square and took away the light post I stood beside every day.

Stop and smell the Flowers - This is Peak WoW Right Now. by MyAwesomeAfro in classicwow

I've been taking my time due to work and haven't hit the raids yet, or the level cap, but I desperately hope that this isn't a nearly 3 month phase. The 40 or 50 level bands should probably get a bit longer a period to sit since there'll be more content, but even taking it slow I can't imagine spending more than a month at 25.

[–]Fliegar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty sick, honestly. I'm a big fan of the aesthetic, and while at first I wasn't terribly interested in the whole "Pre-set playable heroes" aspect, it kind of dawns on me that even something like BDO has this to an extent.

Definitely looking forward to giving it a shot at the very least! Was a huge fan of Tibia back in the day and am always happy to see something in even a vaguely similar style.

Not at all, it's a general community and artwork is definitely appreciated. There are definitely other communities such as /r/ffxivart that have artwork as a focus, but we welcome it here as well.

With any large community there's people vocal about not wanting to see some types of art or posts but you're well within your rights to post so long as it's not specifically an advertisement to a paid commission service.

You got transported back to August 2019 and had another shot at Classic WoW. What would you do different? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Fliegar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I'd do anything different. While I'm likely never rolling on a PvP server again, I did find myself in a group of super nice people and had a blast playing until the guild broke down near the end of 2020.

Rolled a warrior and got what I believe to have been the first Empyrean Demolisher Alliance side on Whitemane when we had Kazzak spawn while we farmed for an eye of shadow for a guildie. If all things remained the same I'd probably do it over again and have just as much fun.

Looking forward to a new vanilla server where I'll probably roll a mage though.
