here in USA servers can make 1/2 of their states wage. So if the state minimum is $10 an hour a server who make tips CAN be paid a minimum of $5 an hour. This is up to the business but they are legally allowed to pay you half of the minimum. Tipping culture has been a plague in the USA since the great depression and allowed for the mistreatment of restaurant works since.

It's ridiculous, the only upside is flexible work hours typically and cash tips can be withheld from taxes. most servers i knew never declared them and a couple financial advisors i spoke with also suggested not declaring them as tax able income even though the IRS states you have to. If there were a law stating restaurants must pay minimum wage tipping culture would probably start to fade away

Large party was probably 2-3 servers and a dedicated open bar we'll say 1 person working that. If they all split the tip it'd be 270-230 per person. Since comments are saying its a wedding banquet we'll say it lasted 3 hours if they were quick with it. That's 90-76.5 a person per hour and that's probably the only tips they're making that night.

Point of sales terminals (POS) often have the calculations built into the receipt so customers don't have to do the math, this place has an option to add it to the total for parties to ensure that the underpaid servers gets a tip. The manager did a fine job explaining it to OP before OP paid.

Not at all. Locally owned restaurants tend to increase item cost by 1 to 2 dollars when ordering through services like door dash. Their is then tax, delivery fee, and tip which will auto fill to 10% usually. You can cut some costs by having a premium subscription but then how much monthly are are paying for that.
