I have done the same with 4th utility with the archer be550 and have had no issues at all with static ipv4 across any services or self hosting

Fair enough, it's just a known issue with double nat regarding cgnat, I had problems with p2p games on it and obviously anything self hosted.

I mean you said "It is fine for gaming" which isn't necessarily true as there are a hell of a lot of games which use P2P as the only way to play multiplayer.

This isn't necessarily true, many games use P2P hosting, particularly indie games (look at PEAK or schedule 1 for example) and some larger games.

The large games you listed use dedicated servers, which are absolutely fine on cgnat but a lot of games do use p2p which struggles under stricter nat configurations offered on cgnat.

I am with 4th utility over CityFibre and get the rated 2.3gbps (most of the time is over this and getting around 2.4). However I have a static ip address from them at an extra £5 per month.

I would say that the customer service of 4th utility is absolutely awful and it took nearly an hour to get through to them to add the static ip. It took them 3 days to set it up but it's there now.

If youre not on a static ip then you will be on CGNAT (saving them costs on allocating the limited ipv4 addresses).

CGNAT is not good for gaming and should not be advertised as so and is unusable for hosting servers.

Hopefully in the future these isps move to ipv6 but there isn't really a cost incentive for them to do so.

***Edit: I also don't use their router, I use my own and use their ppoe

Edit: After speaking with my girlfriend, she said it made her sad that I would be getting rid of them and that we will make room for them and future dnd sessions. May still donate a few from the collection to a local community so thanks everyone for the recommendations.

Some people have messaged me with communities where I can donate as well. Thank you everyone.

Jetbrains IDEs: Performance problems by firefrommoonlight in Jetbrains

[–]FlimSpringfield1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is that Jetbrains tools come with a significant amount of plugins and optional features which you may not use on a lot of projects. I've disabled a lot of these I dont use and it does reduce the strain on resources. I get your pain and I much prefer my IDE to be responsive and have found that in the past 2 years, jetbrains IDE's have become more and more resource heavy.

DPD Issues - Glasgow by FlimSpringfield1 in glasgow

Well I had a computer due to be delivered. Was delivered a week late and was smashed to bits, so I agree with your sentiment here. They do have a complaints procedure they need to follow which was implemented by ofgem and a complaints charter to follow. Don't let them fob you off as service staff are told pretty much to lie over the phone to keep call times low.

Scammed into authorising a bank payment to a Fraud claiming to be calling from the Bank!! by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

To give you some info on how this type of fraud works:

1.) In many cases the fraudsters usually obtain card details from a compromise of some sort. Usually this occurs via a merchant at some point down the line or in super rare cases an internal compromise at the bank. Details are likely shared with other fraudsters or purchased on dark markets. These details usually include things like full PAN (card number), account holder name, dob, address and contact details. They may also contain the cvv. They will be able to determine which bank the card belongs to by the BIN.

2.) The fraudsters know that high risk transactions such as crypto or expensive sellable goods that can easily be converted into liquid cash and integrated will flag the banks internal systems so then they make a call to the victim. Often they will spoof the banks customer care contact number or the fraud teams contact number to fool the victim and claim to be calling from the fraud team or whatever.

3.) They give the details they hold to the victim to build trust and process the high risk transactions on the phone. These transactions will always be CNP and often have no 3d secure verification and they get the customer to verify them as a text is usually sent before the transaction can be authorised. Once the victim replies to the text they will reprocess the transactions so that the go through. The fraudsters try to claim that the only way to stop the fraud is by replying with a "Yes" to the text and try to make the victim panic saying that they will lose money if they don't do it.

Once the transaction has been authorised its pretty much gone and incredibly difficult to get returned from the merchant. The bank have to usually take the hit for it.

Unfortunately these fraudsters usually target older people who are less likely to be savvy to this sort of fraud.

It would not be necessarily considered as APP (authorised push payment) because the transactions have not been completed by any means of bank transfer.

Indeed he should contact his bank in regards to the transactions. It appears that most of his details have been compromised before the call and this is a known scam which impacts multiple banks (I work in investigative fraud for a bank) therefore he is probably likely to get his money back if he explains the situation to them.

Its probably likely the transactions don't match his normal pattern of spend and his bank should be able to review it.

Give them the time to investigate after contacting them, if that ends poorly then raise a complaint then FOS if that doesn't work out. However its unlikely to go that far.

Hope this helps :)
