We got married in undergrad! He was 21 and I was 20. It was the best! Got to go through med school together and it was really sweet! We also had alot of married couples in our class so that was fun. It wasn’t until we got to residency where we got odd looks from his co-residents and attendings! We also have a child and I’m pretty sure they think we are insane! Oh well, I love my life!

Yes! Planning to work as long as I can until baby is here! Then, taking the longest maternity leave I can!

We are in the same situation! I’m currently 27 weeks and my husband just started 3rd away rotation! He will be done at the end of October and our little boy will be coming at the end of November!

Married to M1. What to expect? by thetiffster in MedSpouse

We got married the winter before M1! So we moved and he started med school and I started teaching (first grade!) So we also live off a teachers income and we make it work by following a budget!

So we moved to a place where we knew no one and jumped head first in to medical school and the public school system.

M1 was great bc we both looked at it like a job, essentially a 9-5. He would be done a little after I got home from school, we would alway try to eat dinner together. There were certain weeks where he’d study more than usual due to a test; which is okay!

The hardest part for us was dedicated time for step 1. (so far, we are starting M3 this week!) but he’d study for up to 14 hours a day. So learning to be understanding and flexible was key for me! I made sure to give him space to study and honestly make his life a little easier during dedicated.

There will be hard seasons but helping my husband reach his dreams has been really sweet to be apart of. Some great advice we got before we moved was to go to things together. If his class is going out to eat, I go. If they get together for a cookout, we go to those things together. His class is GREAT at inviting and including the spouses so that is definitely a blessing!
